So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?

Featured Replies

I don't run the lake much, usually launch where I fish or close by.  I would guess 12-15 miles by the boat lanes to the north end of Housen. One of the tournament guys will be along and can tell you to the minute.

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

How far of a run is housen  or six mile from cypres bend?

It depends on the weather (WIND). I would trailer.

It won't be a bad run this weekend as the forecast is only showing a 4 mph wind.  I can be at the mouth of housen from cypress bend in about 10 min

It would be a lot faster if I didn't have to follow those dang boat lanes?

13.5 miles @ 80 mph is 10 minutes and 7 seconds.....I was close:lol:

Ya got a picture of that Kitty? ;)

Fished housen today bite was slow for me but got lucky and boated a 8.0#. Only caught 3 other fish.  All but 1fish caught on 10.5" worm. Have to be close to deep water to get bit and I had several bites Ithat were very light and  did not hook up.

Try again tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Curious why nobody talks about fishing on the north end of toledo bend? Never fished it before but looks like there is plenty of trees and other structure around the river.

I wish a few of the 635 million folks that fish from Indian mounds to buck creek in the spring would go up there.

I wil will be at the bend this tuesday though friday fishing around palo goucho and housen will let ya'll know what I do. Has anyone been under the bridge 3121 in palo goucho?

Catt  a question

With the Bend not having much grass this year you now relate to more structure close to deep water (15/18) near creek bends or a bank that has a creek running by it? Or you look for the little grass they have and fish it near deeper water?

All 3 plus wood, standing timber, standing brush, laydowns, brush piles!

Thanks I just found this site and like the Bend topic I'am going to live over there one day. I go to the Bend every chance I get been going there for the last 28 years two to four times a year but in the shallows (5' to 10') ft (Spring and Fall) will be going off shore in (12' to 25') now.  That's how I fish the oxbows around here and do pretty good just apply it out here away from the bank and fish under water points like I do around here.

Another heads up!  The low down dirty dogs drilling gas tanks hit the public landing by the dam on the Texas side. I swear, I'll put them in the hospital if I see them!

This is why paying 5 bucks isn't bad to have someone watch your truck we have a proplem around the Atchafalaya Basin taking boat trailer tags so they don't have to renew thiers it was bad for awhile but it has gotten better over the years.

Welcome Trap. It's true what you said but I try not to run much over here especially when it's this low. Shouldn't have to worry about that BS at any landing on Earth. I fished the basin and by the house and had some trouble that is inexplicable to me. I won't tolerate it anymore. I will quit fishin' and hunt these a holes if it happens to me over here.

Need some updates on TB will be there Tues thur Fri .

                                   Thanks

Here's one for you. Today, caught 12 from 7 until 2:30. 6 on a tr red bug worm, 3 on a wm red brush hog, 2 on a spinner bait, and one on a frog. In and around creek channels in Sandy Creek. Very shabby size. Maybe 5 keepers. Good luck.

Thanks for update will report on what I do when I get back. Will be fishing mid lake to Housen .

I'm in dink mode.  Caught 7 keepers Saturday and Sunday morning total.  Lots of small fish.  Stopped at dink central on the way in Sunday and spent a couple of hours catching a ton of small fish and white/yellow bass.  Lots of fun anyway.

Thanks what it is all about will be there tomorrow !!!!

Question for Catt and others, is it just me or is the fishing pressure making the bite generally tougher on Toledo Bend?  Reason I ask:

I have been going to TB for many years in spring (with my bass club) and fall and usually catch good numbers and occasional big fish.  In spring of this year our very seasoned club struggled by our normal standards as far as numbers, and last week same deal, low numbers but caught 2 fish over 6.  I just remember getting more bites. We are seeing a ton of boats especially in the fall compared to just a few years ago.  I have heard from some friends that live on the lake that its been a weird year, whatever that means.  I know timing, weather, etc, play a big part to.  Anyway please feel free to comment.

Yes Sir, me too. I'm almost positive I was parked right next to you Sunday. Catch you one day. Maybe next weekend. I'm about ready to spend my Saturdays at Big Sam though. It's time. Until it rains and cools off at least.

Busy Guy, just my humble opinion, but last spring was not normal. I was here for Christmas and the water was 65 degrees. I really think most of the fish spawned earlier than normal. Looks like another mild winter. About the time it was about to get right last spring for the usual spawn and probably for the last time the flood jacked it all up. The fall pattern is way late in my opinion too. I still wish they would lie and rank it 20th or so ;)
