@Amateur Hour some days ya just gotta drop the trolling motor & fish!

Just don't drop it too hard are it might end up on the bottom like mine did 2 years ago lmao.

Kinfolk caught a few numbers last weekend in the coves close too the house nothing of size but good numbers of 14 to 15 inch fish, thinking it's a lil wave of buck bass moving with the shad.

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Not sure if this is allowed here, but if anyone is looking or knows someone looking for a boat I am selling mine.  Please PM for details.  Thanks.

I went about halfway back into patroon and San Miguel on Sunday morning.  I did not go into any smaller creeks.  Thought about going to slaughter and now I regret not going.

Here was my track.  60+ miles and the only fish I caught were about 100 yards from where I launched.

Dang, that's a lot of traveling. How's that new boat compare to the old one? I know when I'm fishing other areas and not having much success, my mind always drifts to my little honey hole by the camp.

The new boat is awesome.  It wasn't terribly rough this past Saturday but it was enough chop that I know the new boat is a lot smoother.

I am disappointed that I didn't find any groups of fish, but I was able to mark a few new brushpiles so it wasn't a total loss.

Anyone spoonin' 'em up yet?  Depth?

I haven’t been on Toledo in a couple weeks, but Friday I caught over 150 mostly on a spoon in 32-34’. It’s that time of year

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

I am thankful for Catt, BassFanatic, fishfordollars, and everyone else that has shared information on this site. It has been an incredible resource and has helped me so much on TB and fishing in general. Thank you!!!

@Amateur Hour back of the creeks! ?

How far back are we talking?

Should I be focusing in the creek channel itself and it's bends?  When looking at my app up north I don't see very many good obvious creek channels that go back in to the coves.  I see the main bayou like bayou San Miguel or bayou Lanan.  I see corsey creek has a pretty defined creek but that is about it.  Where am I going wrong here?  Thanks.

@Amateur Hour I was going mainly off of your weather report which has max winds of 15-30 mph.

I sorry but if there's winds at the upper end of those speeds I aint gonna be on the main lake.

As far how far back in the creeks, that depends on the creek.

Let's say La Nana

I approach Bayou La Nana itself like I would the main lake. Then there's Beech, Little Beech, Hurricane, & Prairie, the approach doesn't change.

It doesn't matter if I'm fishing the main lake, a major creek/bayou, or a secondary creek/bayou.

We're looking for the same types of structure!

Most anglers look at "creeks" as ok we're bank fishing & start the search there. I start my search at the creek channels, I may end up near the bank.

Thanks Catt.  I am not trying to be obtuse but this concept is brand new to me.  Bayou San Miguel for example runs from the main lake all the way to the back with a billion swings and bends.  How do you decide which area to focus on?  I can't imagine idling all of that?   I stumbled on a group of fish right on top of the breakline  on this bend one time.  Didn't even know what I was looking at on my screen I thought it was a bunch of logs on the 2D.  Then once I learned how to use my units I realized what they were.  They have never been there again, but I see fish in the channel on this bend a lot.  Am I correct that once they are in the channel they probably aren't actively feeding?   2 weeks ago I decided to go see if the were there and paralleled that straight part to the right of the bend. They had great looking brush right on the breakline but no fish.  Any amount you care to expand on this topic would be welcomed and appreciated.  Thanks.

Yeah you will ?

That creek channel is near the shoreline?

The only way to prove bass are "inactive" is to put a bait in front of em!

Ok, thanks.

Is that creek channel near the shoreline?

I am not sure how to answer that.  It doesn't swing right next to it.  A couple hundred yards I guess.

Ok that's a better shot ?

The fish you spotted in the channel maybe the same ones. As far finding them there again it's timing, drop a waypoint, & check often. Something had em there ya gotta figure out what & duplicate it.

I like coves with channels that leed out to deeper water and have the wind advantage, meaning the wind is pushing shad pods up into that cove/creek.

Add good brush along the shore line are good structure on the bottom, where bass can lay just out of the current and smash the shad as they pass.

Like a cove with a very sharp point. Several of those on San Miguel.

Holla at me if you want some company fishing this weekend bro, if it ain't to cold like last time lol I'm down to wet a line.

I will be there around noon on Saturday and fishing alone.  I would be happy to have you join me.  If the wind isn’t too bad I am going on the main lake.  If it is bad then I will explore the creeks of SM.  I will touch base on Friday.
