Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

  • Well two days in & only 3 fish ?   But one was tagged BassCashBash which I was registered in, it won me a 2019 Dodge Ram!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

I've been around the Indian Mounds/Housen Bay area, but from what its been like the past few days, you can catch em anywhere. I was idling from Housen to the mouth of Six Mile and saw some grass on my graph so I decided to stop and fish it for a second and caught a 4lber 1st cast on a crank. I was just stopped out in the middle of nothing lol. They are literally hitting everything, everywhere. I also hope this front dont slow em down, cuz Ill be back Saturday if I can find someone to go with me.

Caught 44 bass with a 7lb kicker Saturday and I stopped counting at 50 today. My biggest today was only about 4lbs, but it has been a blast. Spooks, cranks, and wacky worms in 8-12 fow with grass has been the most productive by far.

I will be headed that way Monday, for the week.

Or you running anywhere down south. Or do you pretty much figure on

idling from Indian Mounds to all points south. I was planning on fishing

south at least one day.

Does anyone have any updates on the launch at Penelton Harbor, Texas side.

Can you still launch.

Has anyone run from Penelton North to 1215 area lately ??

I know these a loaded questions, just wanted to ask anyway.

What kind of crank bait are you fishing. Not much on cranks, but had to give in

to them last week on Fork for the McDonalds.

Read a report that 1215 area has a good bit a new hydrilla.

Thanks guys.

I will try and post a report in 8-10 days on my trip.

I have been running as long as Im in the river. Once I get in less than 20 fow I idle. I actually saw a party barge hit a stump in the n/s boat lane between white oak and Housen last Saturday. There is no need to run far though because the fish are everywhere.

I know some guys who have been putting in at the Pentelen Bridge, Texas side and running the river all the way up to 1215, but then they have been idling across the lake to get there. Like I said, I wouldn't hesitate to run the river, but Im going to idle everywhere else. They have been doing pretty good up there also on frogs, poppers, and punch rigs from what Ive heard. And yes, there is alot of new hydrilla.

As for the crankbait Im fishing, it is a Lucky Craft BDS Mini Ghost Minnow. Its a killer up there when the sun is out.

Good luck, be careful, and have fun!

Thanks for the info - I was using the 20' rule as well on my last trip a month ago, until I ran across a few trees in the N/S lane Louisiana side in mouth of Pirates Cove, they were in 40' of water, later confirmed them on my side scan recordings. I have the updated Navionics chip and Bobby Feazels chip, so hopefully i can follow the river channel fairly easily. I know it leaves the buoy's in some places, just dont know the lake well enough.

thanks again

North south lane on Louisiana side by toro is a minefield. I fished Monday and did not do well. Don't know why but, it looks like conditions have changed from what I am reading. We threw topwater, cranks, spinners, c rigs, etc... south bank of housen, Mill creek, Indian creek, and a few spots in between that looked good. I will return Sunday and Monday for sure from what I am hearing.

I am in a 99 Triton TR20 that is white. I will be the one idling while everyone flies by me!!!

The fish were on a feeding frinzy before this front, I would guess !! I think it will take a few days to get back

on a steady pattern. Nothing like a cold front and bluebird skies to make the fishing tuff!!

Depending on wind conditions, probably won't decide until I get up there Monday pm. on my fishing plans. Besides Indian Mounds regular launch, is there another one south besides going around through hemphill. With the lake level

at 160+ Toledo-Bend.com has Jack launch still usable, but the cut-off according to the website is 162. Any info in that area on usable ramps would be appreciated.

I fish a Skeeter ZX 225 with Yamaha. White with charcoal and red pin stripe. Dont think you will see me flying

anywhere, unless i am in the river.

What do you guys think about starting a thread or topic with our cell numbers ( those that wish to participate ) for

emergency towing, etc. on Toledo Bend. Since most of us check in regular before our trips, we could add our planned

fishing dates and edit as needed. Just an idea for those that fish alone most of the time and have no family, etc. in

the area. Maybe one of the moderators could set it up. Or do you guys have public contact information for emergency

on the water towing, etc.

The front definatly didnt hurt the fish...caught 101 today on spooks, cranks, and a pointer. Had 42 in the boat before 7:30. My top 5 pushed 20lbs. It was one heck of a day of fishing. Fished Indian Mounds to the south Housen boat lane. I will be back possibly Tuesday evening and Wednesday if i can find someone to go with.

I like the idea of the emergency numbers, only problem is, I live 2 hours from Toledo, so I could only help if I was on the lake that particular day. But I would be glad to share my info with some of yall. I had to get towed once this year already. :o

What a great trip!! Hope to be on the lake for 2pm tomorrow. I think you convinced me to go south first.

How deep a crank bait you running, just on top of the grass, or you running along side the grass line.

On the towing issue, I was only talking about if we were on the lake, we can post our information prior to leaving.

I also live 2 hrs away.

Anyway If someone needs some help this week I will be on the lake 10-3 thru morning of the 7th.

Hey gang, excellent reports & a great idea to share phone numbers ;)

I don’t know anyone who is running anywhere except in a creek or the river.

Most guys I know who live on the lake are leaving their boats in to water so they don’t have to launch. Most tournaments have been postponed anyway.

The crankbait Im throwing is a LC GDS Mini Ghost Minnow. It dives 6-7ft I think. I have been catching fish in 7-11 fow with grass. When the topwater and cranks slow down, a Pointer will catch em.

I will be there Wednesday (hopefully), my cell is 318-308-5818...Josh

Texas side site #7 is where I launch. First public launch on the texas side coming from the dam. Should be good for another feet or two. I didn't make it out today. Woke up to a flat on the trailer and then something else came up. i guess it wasn't meant to be. I will be out tomorrow. Don't know where I am gonna fish yet. I had to be towed twice this year. cell is 337-353-8960.

Its a Lucky Craft jerkbait...like a Rogue.

I have never caught anything remotely close to some of the reports i have read here but, I had what I considered a good day yesterday so i will post it up.

Went to toro and got there about 0700. I had 4 3lbers and about 4 little guys. My partner did the same except one of his was 7lb. 2oz. topwater with a ribbit frog only produced a few slaps. My partner caught some with c rig. I caught a couple with a T rig. Not much till noon when the wind picked up a little. best fishing was a spinnerbait on the wind blown grass edges and points.

A couple times as i was pulling one in on a spinnerbait i could see 3 more following. Repeat cast and they would just follow it. I tried varying retrieve..stopping and starting. letting it fall and couldn't get em. What would you guys do in a situation like that? What should I follow up with when a bass follows a spinner but won't take it?

I don't know. I read the reports on here and what others are catching. i must be doing something wrong or a lot wrong. I am still learnin and won't give up though. I am stuborn like that!

I would follow up the spinnerbait with a pointer or a fluke. Alot of times when they are following a spinnebait, they will hit something a little slower and more natural. Sounds like you are catching some good fish, just not the numbers. Im not sure what it looks like in Toro, but where Im fishing the 1st hour and a half of daylight fish are busting everywhere. There is just a ton of fish in the area, but alot of them are 12-13"

Since there are only 3 of us do we really need to quote each other?

Yankee sometimes I’ll change colors or blade combinations ;)

Thanks for the tips guys. In the future I will have a different colored spinner handy and a fluke handy. What would be the best presentation for the fluke in that situation? My first instinct is weightless for a slow fall and jerk it along slowly.

This is killing me. Can't get there until the 20th so I hope I haven't missed all the action.

D.Y. - I have been fishing a Super Fluke Jr. rigged wacky (no O- or Split Ring) using a Gamakatsu Extra Wide Gap Weedless Finesse Hook in size #2 thru 2-0 (depending on how the fish like it). A quick snap of the rod tip and it scoots sideways - nice action. I fish it on a light baitcaster using 8-10 lb fluoro. Need to keep a finger on the line because almost every fish comes up, sucks it in and just sits there. The slightest tick, reel down and if theres a little weight, slam it home. About 75% of the hook ups are in the the fish's bony roof part of the mouth so they ain't shaking off. Use a hook remover to free them because its hard to get your finger in there just right. Word of caution - make sure you re-tie often (I usually do it after every third fish hooked in the roof). The line will abrade on their teeth and eventually you will lose a big one. Voice of experience.

I like the fluke to be weightless also. Let it fall in their face and they'll bite it.

I went again yesterday from 6:30-2:00 and caught 30 fish with the biggest being 4lbs. Had 2 other 4+lbers come off in the grass. That stuff is so thick that once they bury up in it, there is no way of getting em out without trolling over to em. Im not sure if it was me or the fish yesterday, but I couldn't get em to bite like they had been. I know that they were still in the area because every few minutes a couple of fish would bust shad in the grass and I had one good school come up in 12 fow, but once they went down, they were done for the day. Hopefully it will pick back up this weekend. I caught them on spooks, a skinny dipper, and a pointer. This was once again in the Indian Mounds/Housen area. I'll be back Friday evening/Saturday. Good luck to all those who will be fishing.

Fished agian yesterday...caught 75 in 8 fow on a spook and pointer. They were schooling pretty heavy. Im going to try and make one more trip up there this year...hopefully they stay how like this. B)

Hey fellas. Longtime reader and first time poster. I am heading up to the lake this weekend and wanted to see if i could pick your brain. We will be launching and fishing around Housen/Indian Mound area out of an aluminum boat, as we dont plan on running too much with the low water. I have not fished the lake since July, but understand the water situation. Not looking for any secert spots, as i have a few spots i usually fish. More less wanted to know what they are hitting and what type of area i need to be fishing to be successful (main lake points, creek ledges, etc.). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tight lines, bowedup.

I have caught 317 bass the past 2 weeks on spooks and a pointer on mainlake grass beds in 8 fow. ;) And they have all been from the Housen/Indian Mound area.

Geez BF. That is pretty impressive, if i say so myself. I have thrown alot of different topwater baits in my day, but havent fished a spook too much if ever. Sounds like i will have to give it a try. A pointer is the same thing as rouge, right. Any certain color you are willing to share. We will be in a silver alum with a 40 hp yam this weekend, if you are fishing the area.

I wish I could fish this weekend, but I have class...

Yes, a pointer is just like a rogue. Ghost minnow has been my color of choice.
