Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Had another good day on Wolf today/yesterday/Friday, whatever you want to call it at 1am.

Huh!  Ok, everybody else was fishing for crappie, so I just assumed.  I didn't see you catch anything in the few minutes I was there.  Looked like y'all were backed into an inlet along the southern edge of the lake, just southwest of the bridge.

Cheers

Wolf creek was phenomenal, that's for sure.  After getting checked in we hit the southend near the dam and along the riprap to the SW.  I was throwing a green northland spinner and my buddies were tossing 5in plastic worms, it was SM heaven.  We then hit the riprap jetty thing both sides and did well there too although more finicky on the calmer side. We threw a lot of lures but the mainstay were plastic worms or jigs with grub/minnow tail.  Although I was using 8lb test i probably lost a bag of plastics to something just clean off the line.  A few times we had shad erupt right next to us and landed some white bass.  At one point i took a break and was getting a water.  I tossed my jig out and let it hit the bottom in 25ft while the others were fishing and nonchalantly asked them what they thought the limit size was on walleye. My buddies turned to see my rod bent in half and when i finally got that d**n fish to the top it was a big ole black drum.  Man i was embarrassed and they just couldn't stop laughing.  We threw a lot but the mainstay were 4-6in plastics 2-4ft from the bank on the drop.  The smallies we caught were 3/4 to a 1.5lbs.  We left around 1pm. I loved it.

Hmmm, you didn't see me fishing for crappie, I promise that. I went under the bridge and on up a little ways fishing for bass on Monday morning I believe? I did pretty good with a T rigged Menace and a spinnerbait. I was only out there a couple hours though.

Thanks for posting the videos...watching these at work makes work less....work :D

What kind of set up do you use to film that? Go pro and some sort of bracket?

I like watching them at work to remember happier times.

I use a Garmin Virb Elite with a suction mount that I put on my windshield in the boat. It works pretty well.

Alright brand new to the forum/site.  I'm looking for a farm pond or small ponds/lake for some good spots to do some bank fishing. I have a friend's pond I can go to and guaranteed to catch fish but don't wanna keep going and over welcome the stay.  Anything in the Johnson County area or close by Gardner.  I usually take my 3 kids out with me so anything with some bluegill or largemouth or catfish. Thanks in advance everyone.

Douglas County State Lake is your best option. Tons of bass and big bluegill and lots of bank access. Only 20 minutes from Gardner.

I had a pretty good weekend this week. Started out with the wife at Doco, just enjoying a break from the extreme heat. Fish were hungry, weeds and water were nice, and I caught some big ugly thing with teeth.

Had the Lone Star tournament that night. It's been beating Coty and I down the last few times so we were just shooting for 10 pounds, which we managed plus a little.

Then I made my first trip of the year to Mound City. I have a love/hate relationship with that lake. I love the lake, I hate the roads getting to it. I suppose that's a big reason why it's still so good even though it's obviously getting more pressure than it used to. I got there late, but 5 boats on a lake that size is still a lot of pressure. It didn't seem to matter though, they bit early and often. No monsters, biggest 3 I weighed were 3lb 15oz, 4lb, and 4lb 7oz. I missed the first one when I forgot to restart the camera after just catching another fish. I got the 4 on video, and it was a good video, but it apparently didn't upload all the way like it said it did and I already deleted the video, but I did at least manage to get the biggest one of the day on camera.

If I could have traded half of these things I caught on wobblers for bass the same size, it would have been a crazy day.

Melvern is still real stained and all the fish I caught were skinny.  Topwater bite was good at first light until about 8:30.  It's always fun when you get multiple fish trying to eat a topwater bait.  Big and noisy was the key, I highly doubt they would see any finesse bait.

Has anyone ever fished out at Celebration Park in Gardner?  I was told there is no fishing there and have seen the no fishing or swimming signs posted but couple people from work told me there is some good size fish in it and can be caught pretty steadily.

There aren't any no fishing signs there. It's decent but gets beat to death.

Yes there are, but they've been there for a couple years now. I think it's just a cover for the city in case any dummies ever decide to eat the fish out of there.

Where are they? I see no swimming signs and the other signs posted around it are algae bloom warnings.

It says no fishing on those same little signs. I don't think there's any intention to enforce it though because they've been there for a couple years now.  It's a city park, not sure how they can make it off limits to fishing anyways.

I had a city worker tell me one time about the no fishing signs, he wasn't concerned about me fishing but just felt like he needed to tell me about it.

i have been out there several times fishing and have had Gardner PD come by and ask if I was catching any fish. Never said anything about no fishing.

I went out the day after you and had a bunch of short strikes on topwater.  Ton of bites but not many hookups.  It was very weird.  Same thing was happening on crankbaits.  My best luck was actually dragging a shakyhead slowly through the riprap banks.

Looks like I get to fish Lake Waukomis from a boat finally! They're having a fishing derby for July 4th Weekend Celebration. My brother and his gf live there and are gonna get my 2 man registered for the lake and fish it with my brother. Since he's not an avid fisherman I'm just gonna rig him up with my 2 fairy wands (one with a Ned and one with a wacky rig)...who knows, he may wind up with most and/or BB! Lol

Anyone have a suggestion to replace the Z Man finesse lead head? I'm breaking way too many of them.

I make some if you don't mind gluing the baits to the head and having a sickle hook (Eagle Claw, not Matzuo). You can get them at Mondo Tackle too along with a few other companies heads that BPS doesn't carry, mostly local guys.

Going to have an empty seat for Friday (and Thursday after work), if anyone wants to join. Probably stay close with Olathe or Doco Thursday. I'm looking at either CV or a return to MC after last week with a dark horse of Lake Shawnee for big smallies.

Just get some from Clayton. The ZMan ones are absolute garbage.

Man I wish I could get off during the week!!

I have fished Smithville Lake the last couple of weekends.  We caught a few on top water walking baits but the majority were caught on square bills fishing main lake points.  We have been catching bass, walleye, catfish, drum, white bass and even a crappie or 2.  The biggest bass being around 4lbs.  My father in law caught a 22" walleye.  That was pretty fun to watch.

if you guys haven't tried them yet, take a look at the new Berkley Pitbull square bill.  We have been using the "gilly" color.
