For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports

looks like Perry and Clinton will not be a fishing destination for a while.

Clinton is 11 foot high.

Perry is 19 foot high.

probably quite a few floating trees out there.

Smithville is only 1.5 feet high. it does not seem to fluctuate like the other 2.

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

All ramps are closed at Clinton as of today.

Ugh, I hate all of this flooding!! Sounds like I got lucky with the time of  having my boat serviced/repair though.  Not having the boat for a week is pure torture!! Hopefully I'll have it back soon...

All these years of trying, finally broke my 5lb PB for smallmouth today and I smashed it with a 5.83. Pics will have to wait until I go back to work, I can't  post them from my phone.

Nice. A pound from the state record.

I think the next state record will be caught either there or WYCO

took a neighbor for a crappie expedition on Smithville today.

in spite of the water being muddy from the recent rains, we caught 26. all in shallow water.

all of them were in the 8 to 10 inch range. Missouri is allowing anglers to keep smaller crappies this year at smithville to thin out the smaller fish.

there are still plenty of legal 9 inch fish, but there is an over abundance of stunted 7-8 inch fish.

I wish Kansas was fluid and proactive about fish management like that, but after watching them shocking crappie and bass of spawning beds yesterday I've pretty much lost all hope in them doing much good for our lakes.

you would think shocking fish off the bed would be detrimental to the spawn.

Plus who knows what the electircity will do to the eggs.

KDWPT does some strange things.

I wish they would just have a parks and tourism department. Then have a separate DNR like a lot of states.

Just spent 4 days on Table Rock. It was a roller coaster ride including a day where I blanked. Did well Sat, and Sun with a lipless Red Eye Shad in Sexy Shad and a Strike King Painted Blade Spinnerbait 1/2 oz white/sexy shad. The spinnerbait was a slow roll and the lipless was ripping the bait from the bottom and letting the bait flutter back down. I did pick up a few fish on a shaky head.

That worked great, until Monday. Monday came we ran to cleaner water, like 12' vis clear. Huge mistake. Tried everything. Finally gave up and ran to water with about 3' vis and had no luck. I blanked on Monday. Tuesday I cut every bait off, tied on a Spook, bone color, a black buzz bait, and a Live Pointer American Shad. Caught fish at the first spot with the Spook and never looked back. Ended up being a solid trip.

Nice stick. The net also added a great twist of drama.

Headed to Table Rock next month with the family. Not sure how much fishing I'll get in but I'm taking the boat so I'm sure I'll get to do some. Always love getting to fish that lake, but it can sure humble you in a hurry.

Thanks, I sure could have done without the added drama, there was plenty going on already with having a big smallmouth hooked on light line.

Blue, that is an unbelievable fish. Wow! Between that one and the fact that you caught the mystical Smallie at la Cygne... bravo. I have never ventured out to Shawnee but apparently I should.

Dude, that's awesome!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could fish one of these lakes this Saturday for Bass, which one would it be?

Blackhoof, Olathe, Cedar (Olathe), Gardner, Kill Creek, Shawnee Mission, or WyCo.

if I was in a boat it would be in this order.

1:Gardner has fished well the last few years.

2: WYCO is probably the best for numbers. with an occasional chunk.

3:Olathe, because of the construction on the east side it has had very limited shore angling pressure.

none of these are great for shore anglers.

I have limited experience with the rest.

I'd go to Wyco then Gardner. Olathe was extremely difficult Thursday with zero visibility and the water hadn't even hit 60 yet.

I know this is normally reserved for local fishing reports but being that this would need to be a local deal to me here in KC I figured it would not harm anything to post this here. I am looking into buying a small fishing boat and I am considering buying a jon boat and having it built more into a bass boat. (Budget is pushing me this direction versus buying a traditional bass boat.) I really considered some of the nicer Sun Dolphins that would suite my 8 year old son and I but pretty soon my 4 year old son will demand to go too. I am posting this here in our local section because I do not have the time/skill to build something like this and a while back I saw a posting somewhere of a local guy that does just this kind of stuff but I cannot find it or his contact info anywhere. I was wondering if anyone could point me in a certain direction or know of anyone?

I look at boats every day on craigslist. Also Facebook marketplace. A lot of stuff can be had.

Table Rock should just get better until the hottest days. The Smallies are coming right along and the Spots are still insane. An, you have those big girls just waiting. We fished Lost Hill Island and Mill Creek every day except Monday and caught nice fish. The point north of Viola gave out great numbers as well. I hope you get a minute for the water, should be an amazing crankbait bite about that time.

Anyone ever fish Beaver Lake? Going there in July and was wondering about both the smallies and largies as well as if I could get on stripers on my own?

I will be in Kansas City from August 26th - September 21, 2019 doing a rotation at the medical center.

Does anyone have an extra bedroom they'd be willing to rent for a ~month me for a reasonable fee?

Been tough conditions in the area lately, and apparently the ACoE has decided to "effectively" close Perry Lake for the rest of the year. There are rumors they're considering the same for Smithville. Anyone heard anything similar?

Fished Smithville yesterday. Flipping the willows with brush hogs, jigs, spinnerbaits and some top water. Missed one bite and never had another all day.
