Don't know, I didn't weigh it but I'd guess probably 5 or 6 pounds.

Is the Ned rig a year round bait? Is it best used around rocky areas or can you use it anywhere? I have only used it along the d**n at Melvern.

Yes you can catch fish on it year round. Anywhere there isn't a lot of snags is best. You can fish it around snags if you get jigheads with a single wire or small fiber weedguard, but you still have to get the fish out of the cover with light line. It's great around docks and vertical cover like seawalls or pole timber because it falls slowly.

27.75" Drum. On a PB&J Ned. Didn't have a scale (Nor do I own one) Guesstimates on weight?

Probably 6 or 7 pounds. A bass that long would be around 10 and they aren't as thick as bass. I'm sure that was a good fight though.

For sure it was. Caught about 12the drum. Half over 4lb. Crazy day. Fished Winfield City Lake.

Spinning it a must with a sensitive M-ML rod.

The jig head is too light to have any feel on a larger diameter line.

I couldn't believe how much switching down to a lighter power rod helped me.. there should be some kind of 'official' record for how big of smallie could be caught on crappie gear with 4lb test and a ned rig...

We caught them shallow and deep. I have a loose connection somewhere with my sonar so that crapped out about 30 minutes in. Seems like we had the most success when I set the boat about 2 casts worth from the dam. So fairly deep.

A good thing to try on any modern sonar unit if that happens is pulling the fuse for that circuit and plugging it back in after a couple seconds. I think they might have internal circuits in the unit that never really reset unless the voltage drops to 0 on them for a couple seconds.

you know what always seems like it would work good for me is those little football jigs with the 1/0 hook and the wire weedguard at cabelas. I think they call them wacky rig hooks. if they werent $2 apiece i'd probably see if it worked for 'Neddin at least.. Ya think?

As much as Im loving using Neds Rig. Come warmer weather, im a big bait kind of guy. Big Frogs!!! And Mini Slammers.

Never fished it but I'm sure it would work if there's fish on the dam. The hard thing about fishing it from the bank is it tends to snag a lot more because of the angle you're pulling it. You might want some jigheads with light weedguards but even that won't stop it from wedging in the rocks.

Fished my bank spot at Gardner for half an hour this morning. I thought maybe with the warm, windy day they might be biting, I guess I was wrong. My second cast I caught a 18" saugeye on a trap. I had one other for sure bite and another I thought was a bite but didn't connect on either. At least I didn't blank I guess. Once I gave up on fishing I took the puppy and walked her through some waist deep grass and she went nuts. I couldn't breath I was laughing so hard. Hopefully she'll have the same energy and passion for duck hunting

If anyone is interested I'll be headed to Melvern tomorrow probably for the last time this year. I'll have an empty back of the boat if anyone wants to tag along. Weather looks pretty decent, little more wind than I'd like but shouldn't be too bad.

Drew and I headed to Melvern today for the last time this year before the cold snap next week. Water temps stayed pretty steady from 49-50 degrees. It was a grind all day but the quality of fish was making up for it. My first fish of the morning was a solid 3.37lb 18.5" smallmouth on a Ned Rig.

About an hour and a few fish later I got my second keeper of the day, 18" and 3.35 pounds, also on a Ned Rig.

Drew got in on the action with a chunky smallmouth on a jigging spoon.

Then I got a 17 3/4 incher also on a jigging spoon.

and Drew followed up with the biggest spot he's ever caught, also on the spoon.

We had a pretty long lull with only a few fish here and there. We decided to hit the outlet at the dam one more time before we left since we'd caught several of our fish off of it. Drew hooked up quickly on the spoon. The fish was fighting really odd. I thought he'd tailhooked a carp until the line came up quickly and a super stocky smallmouth went airborne. It was a pretty serious tussle before I got the net under one of the thickest smallmouth I've ever seen. She was 18.5" and 4.04 pounds!

You can really tell how thick she was in this picture even though it's kind of dark.

Pullin 4lb smallies in December! Wish i coulda gone... Nice fish!

Good looking old boat but I don't think I'd go over 3,000 for it. Even though the boat looks nice it's still over 30 years old and the motors almost 15 despite it's hours. That's just my feelings on it. I paid the same price for a 92' Ranger with a 150hp Mercury 2 stroke so I'd try to get them a to back off the price a bit.

I really liked that old Champion hull styling. That one looks really clean (even if it probably is a refurb) Price may be a little high for a 30 year old hull and 13 year old motor. The hours from engine module or gauge? Makes a difference.

Marked fish with the exception of the fish coming off the side of the outlet since you can't get that close to it. I also snagged a 22" carp that was probably 6 or 7 pounds that made my heart jump in my throat when I caught the first glimpse of golden brown before it shot under the boat. I thought I had a new state record smallmouth.

You know guys i'm not sure about the hours on the boat. I like 2 strokes and this one even was a 2+2 meaning 2 cylinders were off when your just idling to save gas...

i agree this is a below 3K boat that is just cherry, it's really about how good the transom holds under real inspection and if it fires up. i have a feeling it will be alot closer to 3 than 4k

Just gotta sneak down to Arma to find out... seems like a few good Northern OK/AR plus SWMO boats make it up there..

2 weeks ago I drove to Arkansas to look at a boat only to find out it was a real pos! Keep looking you'll find a good one.

FYI in that price range you can find a nice 17' tracker...
