Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Have you guys seen on TW that Lucky Craft has a new squarebill out? Comes in a 1.5 and 2.5 size, all silent, in 6 colors. The part that shocked me was the price, $6.99! Maybe Lucky Craft is hurting with all these companies starting to offer bargain priced baits for the average Joe like us and starting to try to get on the bandwagon? Sure would love me some $7 Pointers

After hearing some reports from the day at the vern, glad I stayed home with the family today.

Got my request off for the Classic approved!  :respect-059:

Anyone else planning on going to the Classic? It was a blast last time and don't expect any different this time.

The BA and I were planning on going.  Might even have a free place to stay.

I'm sure you did. lol.

I'm glad I went, you don't know if you don't go.  I figured out when a tws ices up all your line ends up on one end of the spool.

The brown fish, they speak to me, you see.

I'm just glad Peter got to come out and fish too. He said himself he hasn't been on a boat since our first LV tournament.

I'm not kicking anyone for going. Hell, had I not been at LOZ the entire weekend before I would have been right there with you. Just knew it wasn't going to be worth hearing it at home, and after hearing the reports it wasnt. I'm sure that lake will "turn on" soon.

Took the day off today and went back to the 'Vern. It was a little better than yesterday. I caught around 10 smallies, all on the Ned. 4 were over 14" and totaled six pounds and change anchored by this 17 incher:

I know, I need to work on my fish selfies.

Before I took off at 1:00, I fished the Eisenhower east creek arm. It was a couple degrees cooler than the rest of the lake. I fished jerkbaits along the bluff bank like Tinberg showed me and caught quite a few larries. No keepers, though.

I talked to a KDWP guy as he was launching and I was putting my boat on the trailer. He seemed pleased to hear about the short largemouths.

In all, not a great day by any stretch but it sure beat working.

Went out to Shawnee SFL for a few hours this afternoon. Surface temperature ranged from 47 to 50. Caught several in a foot or two of water cranking a squarebill on windy rocky banks but only two were keepers. It was too windy to effectively flip the laydowns and brush piles that usually produce for me. I also wasted a bunch of time trying the dying weeds and the calm water along the dam. I should have just kept going back to the stretches of rocky bank that were producing.

The two biggest wipers from last week came home with me so Ryan and his wife could have some fresh fish. Lake seemed to approve of them too :)

Friday was the worst day of my life. Father in law was watching the girls for us so we could both work half a day. At 1130 I got a call that his extremely large male golden retriever bit my youngest daughter. I drove 70mph on the side roads of prairie village to Waldo and blew every light I came to. When I arrived I saw the damage and rushed her to the nearest hospital I knew of. St Joseph at 435 and state line. The dog got her in the face.... her cheek caught the worst, and there was a deep puncture just under her eye. Stitches, glue a lot of crying from her as well as me, a threat to the ER doc and we were finally discharged. It looks so terrible.

Now I'm in the battle with my wife and in laws over the fate of the dog. I'm not budging on this one, so I guess time will tell. She hasn't left my arms since, and needless to say, daddy is still on the edge.

That sucks man, that's a bad deal. I hope she heals and everything works out.

  • Super User

Stitches are supposed to come out in 5-7. Hoping it heals well but we have a good contact for a pediatric dermatologist if needed. Thanks for the good wishes.

  • Super User

No problem, and it's amazing how well kids heal up.

That sucks.  As a dog owner that's the worst thing you can ever imagine your dog doing.
