Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Good luck . The pleasure boaters will probably be out in force this weekend.

If you are going to fish I would go early.

Last labor day I made the mistake of staying too long at Smithville. Got buzzed by multiple jet skis and slammed into a dock when a wake boat ignored the no wake zone. My boat still has battle scars from that incident.

The boat ramp at WYCO can be pretty entertaining on Labor day weekend. If you are not trying to use the ramp yourself. Fights and arrests are common.

Interesting. Hoping to avoid an lakes that are greater than 5 mph or allow a wake.

I put it back together temporarily - gonna have to do a full tear down of the transom this winter.

Fun!

Anyone local have a used 5" Humminbird? My 4" has too small a screen for me on my kayak.

Hi everyone! We just moved to Platte City last weekend. So far, I've only had time to hit these two neighborhood lakes by the house (Lakes of Oakmont). It's been very productive! 10 the other morning and took my oldest girl tonight and she beat me 4-2. 3 have been over 2lbs, the rest between 1 and 2. Only a couple bonefide dinks. So, nothing crazy but, it's been a blast! Looking forward to getting to some bigger water soon. I've read through some of the thread already so, I can tell there's some great fishing nearby.

Welcome! Where you coming from in NE (I am assuming that’s where the Husker comes from).

Yep! My wife and I are from Omaha. Thanks for the welcome! Heading out this morning looking for some big ones.

Omaha had a lot of small lakes with surprisingly god bass fishing within a very small radius. I only moved down here to KC in June, and have so far found that KC doesn’t quite have the proximity of small lakes. On the other hand, if you drive a little further you are a lot closer to bigger reservoirs with lots of species options. Good luck.

There's a lot more lakes in the KC area than you have found yet.  Within a half hour to an hour drive you'll discover a whole bunch of good bass fishing lakes.

Yes. Well aware of half hour to hour range. Omaha was 10-20 minute range.

Not sure if anyone will know the answer here. There's a Humphrey Access point to the Platte over here near Platte City. I see a couple lakes just to the east off Humphrey on Google. Anyone know if these are private?

Don't know of any public lakes near Platte city. Most small lakes in the Northland are private.

Smithville and Watkins mill are the only two public lakes I know near the north side of kc.

Wyandotte county lake and shawnee mission lake are on the Kansas side, but you need a permit to fish them.

Ok awesome, thanks for replying. I took a little drive by the ones I was talking about and they are definitely private. I need to get over to Wyandotte and Smithville for sure. I normally try to hit somewhere nice and close during the week because I can the bank, (hopefully) catch some big ones, and get back home to work by 8:00 or 8:30. Wyco and Smithville will be a Saturday morning spot I think.

Make sure you buy a permit for Wyandotte county lake. They will check you  and give you a ticket, if you don't have one .

Oh, I thought you meant a KS fishing permit. Is the extra permit necessary for other lakes around?

The Wyandotte County permit is required only for Pierson Park County Pond (I wouldn’t waste your time there) and Wyandotte County Lake I believe.

It is also required for the pond at Wyandotte county park. West of the legends on State Avenue. Pretty small, but occasionally gives up a big fish. There. Is also big eleven lake at state avenue and 11th street.

Pierson is not well maintained, but I have caught a few nice bass there when my boat was getting repaired.

There's a Johnson County Permit required to fish at Shawnee Mission Lake, Heritage Park, Kill Creek Lake, and Lexington Lake also.

I have a buddy that actually does pretty well at Pierson. I've never fished it but he's shown me the pictures.

Thanks for all the great info guys! It's much appreciated.

Grabbed a few decent bass and a 6.5lb cat this morning. Saw it roaming around and thought it was a bass at first. I was hootin and hollerin when he took my craw cuz I thought I caught my biggest bass. It's all good. It was a fun fight!
