w4svc
Any good Walleye lakes in NE Kansas? Never caught a walleye yet and would like to try. I've heard there are a lot of walleye fisherman that never caught a walleye? Maybe it takes a Bass fisherman to catch a walleye. ;D Tried crappie fishing with a buddy that does it a lot. I caught one to his three then led him astray. We both caught our limit of LM. ;D
Super User skunked_again Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Share Posted January 12, 2008 we can kiss cedar lake goodbye. the land has been sold and will be mined. nothing like killing a 50 year old lake that gives up 6 lbs. bass quite often. > >

I have lost a few lure in that lake, I may need to head out there and see if i can recover a few. Unfortunately, I can't say that I am super disappointed in the news, I have never had much success there myself, although it is sad that an old established body of water is gong to be gone, not to mention the park and playgrounds for the kiddos. KansasBassin
Skunked...where did you see Cedar was closing...I cant find any info on it. Although no great loss, that lake was never consistent to me... I think Lake Olathe or Gardner was a much better lake. Cedar just always seemed real muddy to me. Cedar just always seemed real muddy to me. i was told by an employee at BPS. i assume the info is good info. as far as the lake being no great loss IMO any piece of water thats been in place for over 50 years is a great loss. i personally have no problem boating large bass at the lake, on the other hand i couldnt catch a thing at olathe lake the times ive fished it. KansasBass
Which employee at BassPro? Just wondering because my uncle works up there. His names Russ, short little guy, 40's, dark hair. I practically live there myself, lol.

They did say that they are planning on closing the lake either late this year or early next to dredge it out.
huskertko
Anyone been out and caught any fish yet? :-? I went out last weekend for a while, but I was bank fishing and could catch a cold if I wanted to. As a side note, it was more of a testing session trying out Stren MicroFuse line, and it failed the test miserably. >
ks cranker
I'm thinking about hitting Lake Olathe after work. Anyone know a good spot to hook a bass?

That is where I went last weekend, it was really muddy, especially for Kill Creek.
Super User senile1 Posted March 12, 2008 Super User Share Posted March 12, 2008 For you Kansas guys south of KC, La Cygne is where I would go first, due to the warm water discharge. Up here north of Kansas City on the Missouri side, we still had a lot of ice last week, but the warmer temperatures this week should make a dent in the ice. Smithville still had a lot of ice in the large coves last week.
IneedAnewScreenName9886691
I have been out E of Wichita the last two weekends. Caught 1 fish. ? Went out today, we caught 43 and a new PB for the fat man!! Needless to say I am pumped up! I was a little dumped after two solid efforts and barely a fish to my name in '08! Gotta keep casting (or wait for the weather to warm things up)! SPRING IS HERE!!! Thats right! I said it! Happy Releasing, H.G. PS: KU BASSMASTER - I wore my good luck fishing towel just for you big guy! Good luck in the tourney man! I swing both ways : Anything positive for a KS team is good for KS in my opinion! Super User senile1 Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Share Posted March 13, 2008 You must be flying higher than a kite, hydrillagorilla. After that day, you won't want to fish anywhere else.
IneedAnewScreenName9886691
LOL Senile1 - fact is- I may never get to fish that lake again. It was kind of a lucky deal I was invited -hence taking a day off of work. I am back on the bench! He has permission but he handles it correctly and limits his fishing to about 4 or 5 times a year. He and his friend (also a bud of mine) worked on getting on that lake for several years. So when they go, it's usually those two. He had to back out so I got the call . I kind of know the guy (property owner), but I wouldn't dare step on their toes and ask too.
Super User senile1 Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Share Posted March 13, 2008 Dude, that's too bad. But what a day! Wow! It sounds like your friend handles the situation properly. When you get a place like that you don't want to overdo it. Four or five times a year sounds about right.
huskertko
Just an update on water temp more than anything. I went to Kill Creek tonight for a while and tried to fish, I say tried because I am still learning to handle a boat and fish at the same time. :-[ Anyway Kill Creek was extremely muddy but the temps were starting to come up. Water down by the boat ramp was 50.3 but the water at the dam and the northwest corner were up to 53 and that was at 6:30 at night. I didn't catch any fish but thought I would give an update on the water temps, I can feel the spawn getting closer.
w4svc
I spent the day on Brown Co. Lake. Lake temps were 44-45deg. Had only one hit using a coffee tube, I did not get the hook set > Going to try it again Saturday. One person on the bank was catching bluegill. huskertko
Does anyone have any advice on Shawnee Mission Park lake? I have fallen into a rut of always going to Kill Creek because I feel comfortable fishing it, but I would like to start to get that comfort level at some other local KC lakes. With the weather looking like it will cooperate this weekend, and the fact I have a boat now, I was thinking of giving SM park a go. Any ideas on where to start out there? I was thinking of fishing the coves on south side, mainly since I have never been able to fish in those areas with out a boat. Thanks
ks cranker
i'm planning to go to SMP tomorrow as well. grey express boat, I shout if I find any thing! ;D
w4svc
Water temps here in norhtern Ks still cold 47 deg. Did put a 1.5 lber in the boat on a shaky head worm bounced on the bottom.
