Roseypike
You can call Linn County Parks and probably get that information. I'm not sure what the number is but I'm sure you could find it online or go to Kansas Department of Wildlifes website, it's listed there under La Cygnes fishing report. The water at the outlet was only 40 degrees Monday and if they haven't picked up since then there may not be a boatramp open right now. The only one open Monday was the one straight across from the outlet that is extremly shallow right now. I had to use my trolling motor for the first 100 yards before I could even put my big motor down far enough to motor the rest of the way over. The warmest water I saw all day was 46 degrees. Bluebasser the water temp at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening (1/16) was 58 degrees at the outlet and 50 on the flat west of the outlet. The fish were going crazy on both Saturday and Sunday. Then I went back Monday (1/17) late morning and the temp had dropped to 40 degrees in just that short period of time. Crazy. We did catch a few fish, but they were in 45 degree water west of the outlet. When the entire plant shuts off, the water running down the canal is COLD, and it makes that warm water arm cold. You can usually "chase" warmer water as you move west towards the island and marina. I've had an incredible winter fishing Lacygne so far, but the inconsistent power generation makes it more of a crap shoot than normal years. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 30, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted January 30, 2011 The last couple times I've been to La Cygne was on a monday or tuesday and they weren't generating at all so the water was cold and the fish were not biting well at all. It's still better than sitting at home though ;D. I have caught more numbers of fish this winter at La Cygne than recent years but the big fish have not been there for me. I hope they're right because I've got a couple days of fishing coming up just don't have a destination picked yet! ;D

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 10, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 10, 2011 I killed them down there a couple weeks ago but I'm thinking more like Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock, or Bull Shoals, somewhere that is a little too far for a day trip since I've got a couple days to fish. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 13, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 13, 2011 Drove across the dam at La Cygne tonight on the way home from Joplin. It was dark but as far as I could see the lake was frozen. :'( I've never seen that much ice on La Cygne, it was frozen all across the south end as far as the lights from the plant would go. The stacks weren't going on the way down there or the way back either. Anybody go down there with these warm days? Didn't want to drive my wife's car down there through the park to look at the ramp. My luck I'd end up with one of their pet deer on the hood! ;D
Roseypike
I fished La Cygne both Friday and this morning (Sunday). Total fish counts were 16 largemouth and 12 chunky whites, and several of the largos were 18" or better. Water temp has been hovering around 50 degrees both by the outlet and near the north boat ramp cove. The park ranger chainsawed a hole in the ice at the north boat ramp and there were about ten boats unloading when I left this morning. Talked to a friend who made it out in his boat and he said it was easy to launch, but a pain in the *** to get the boat out. He also said fishing was slow. I've been wade fishing all winter long and it's almost as if I've had the whole lake to myself! That said, this weather will have the main boat ramp open in no time and I look forward to getting out in the boat soon!  8-) See ya on the water.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 14, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 14, 2011 Good info Roseypike! I'm heading to Wolf Creek tomorrow. I've whacked them the last couple times I"ve been out there and with the winds supposed to be pretty light and warm weather I'm hoping it won't be any different ;D. I still might try La Cygne on Tuesday though, maybe with the warm weather they will have turned on down there.
Super User senile1 Posted February 14, 2011 Super User Share Posted February 14, 2011 You Kansas guys are making me jealous. I think I'm going to have to get a non-resident license for Kansas for the year so I can fish these power plant lakes in the Winter. All of my waters have been iced over or the ramps are iced over. I hope this warming trend softens some of this water in a week or two.
Getfished
Hey guys, new here to this forum. I am glad to locate some local guys and some local info. Â I noticed for Wednesday my sources say the wind will be 15-25. When it is forecast that much do you still go to Wolf Creek? I need to get out and Wednesday is my only day this week. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 15, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 15, 2011 If it's forcast above 15 I don't bother going to Wolf Creek. They will more than likely page you off the lake when it gets to 15 or above even though it says 20mph during the winter. It's not as bad if it's from the west or east but if it's from the north or south don't even try. I have never seen a lake get as rough as that lake does with almost no wind. Since it runs north to south and it's so flat around it the wind has nothing to slow it down. You could still try La Cygne but they haven't been generating much so that water isn't as warm as it normally is but the water is soft and better than sitting at home! ;D
Getfished
Well, thanks for the feedback. Looks like I'll just spend the day in the barn making jigs. I'll give it a try one day next week.
Dougie De
Hey guys enjoy La Cygne but it sucks to make an hour trip if the stacks are not blowing anyone know if they are? went Saturday 19TH very slow ,water was cold 54 @ outlet and 49 - 50 lakewide... Chris311
Stack #1 is the main stack at Lacygne and it has been down for repairs for weeks and stack #2 has only been running at 50%. I was told stack #1 should be back up and running here shortly, what ever that means. If the wind is from the south that water pushes the fish out further if its blowing from the north it pushed them in closer. hope that helps! Getfished
It seems to me that a bit of research ought to turn up a contact where we can determine the La Cygne info before we make the trip. I like to fish the lake and as a matter of fact I caught my 2nd pb from there a few years back. I live about 15 miles north of Topeka and it sure would be nice knowing if they were generating or not before I drug the glitter sled all the way over there. With the daily changing gas prices I'll be not near so spontaneous when it comes to heading over that way.

Getfished
OK Chris311, Thanks. I'll put the number in my directory right now. There is a small problem however. Sunday I was able to get my boat out of the garage and see my yard for the first time this year. Didn't last long. We got a mini blizzard goin on right now. It's a bona fide whiteout. I think they're calling for about 4" over here and everything is already blanketed again. At least I don't think it's gonna be another 9+ inches like the last three snows we had. It's getting old. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 25, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 25, 2011 Me too! I'll probably wander down to La Cygne on Tuesday to test the waters. Supposed to be pretty windy but it is in Kansas so what else can you expect? :
Chris311
I sat in my boat in the garage last night drank beer and watched it snow. My wife came outside and said its killin ya isnt it, I said can you hand me another beer please I am drinking away winter right now! Just looked at the weather for the weekend, it didnt work! Guess i need to drink some more beer in the boat tonight! Cheers!
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 26, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 26, 2011 This snow should go away pretty fast with the rain and warm weather we are supposed to have coming! We can't be far from spring. Trout seasons are coming up at Shawnee Mission and Wyco lakes if that jerks your frog. Until the bass start biting elsewhere I'll be headed to La Cygne! Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 1, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 1, 2011 Went to La Cygne today and fought the wind and not much else. My buddy caught the only bass of the day, a 10 incher on a rattletrap and only whitebass of the day on the same thing. I had 2 bass bites, both on a trick worm on a shakey head on the rock banks by the mouth of the river. One tapped it and dropped it, missed the other one. It hit in less than a foot of water so I'm sure it wasn't very big. I did manage about a 10pound flathead at the outlet on a jigging spoon. Several boats, nobody catching anything. Stacks weren't going all day and water was really muddy from recent rains. Temp at the outlet was 56 degrees by noon, I would have rather stayed home and slept.
