Chris311
Fished Hillsdale Saturday 7am until 1130am, WT 66 at the dam, wind picked up at a steady 18 mph, one bass short at 16 inches, called it a day and went to the house! I got checked at the ramp by DNR, the officer gave me a warning for my letters said they where not visible at 25 feet. I thought it was kinda strange becasue I have been inspected three time prior once at Hillsdale last year and twice at Lacygne and no word was mentioned about my lettering. Oh well stopped at Bass Pro on the way home and for $6 fixed the problem! Here are the before and after letters, they are now 3-D white over blue! The old are the blue. retro basser
I got out there twice over the long weekend. In fact, I began and ended the Memorial day break on the water, Friday morning and Monday evening. Playing with fire both times kinda cause there was a storm rolling in at Leavenworth friday around noon and that wind on Monday at Lonestar was NO JOKE. Water temp was 70-71 at both places. It was overcast on Friday with a that front coming in so I was pretty excited to be fishing. There were guys on some of my known spots so i struck out some new territory to see if i could locate em with a smoke grub or spinners....no such luck. I tried pitching a jig in tight to the bank just for the hell of it and was just about to give up on it but decided to go a little smaller (3/8oz) and with a light color (white w chartruse trailer). On the first drop a bass slammed it from the side. I was stoked since i was about to give up and have never caught one on a jig, plus it was damm near a keeper which is a good fish for me. Monday was all about being out there. I shook off a little hangover the all-day bender the day before was kind enough to leave me with around 4 and headed out there. 25-35mph winds, gusts above that. It was wild. There is actually a ramp at lonestar that pretty much goes in due south, which is where the the wind was coming from, so it wasnt that bad considering what it coulda been. I stayed where it wasnt too windy, which wasnt great fishing but i didnt care. Caught a few fat bluegills but no bass. There were actually a ton of people fishing off the bank in good spots and they probably had a way better setup than someone on a boat. Good for them. Chris I notice you hit Hillsdale alot. There are some really good maps for alot of KS lakes through a KU science department. Hillsdale got more of a full on report, but there is a good map on page 14 of this document, just so ya know: Hillsdale Lake Survey
Chris311
Retro good stuff TY!!! I am making the move to Lacygne for the next few weeks, Hillsdale has the run abouts and Jet Skis all over by 1130am now!
flipinstick88
Finally tagged my little 10' boat and got it out to Miami SFL last Sunday. Had a good day despite the high winds. Caught about 20 fish between 10 - 18 inches. Most came on crankbaits, but got one on a spinnerbait and a few of plastics. I plan to go to Cedar Lake in Olathe this weekend! Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 5, 2011 retro-don't feel bad about not doing good at Leavenworth. I can usually go out there and come away with a bunch of dinks at least. What made it worst is I took my father-in-law and brother-in-law with me because I thought for sure they could catch some fish also. Well about 4 hours into it we had managed maybe 10 dinks (less than 12" fish") on several techniques. I couldn't believe how bad the fishing was and other than a 3 or 4 pound wiper that smacked my jerkbait, we caught nothing even big enough to put up a fight on anything other than ultralight tackle. It's pretty sad to see how far downhill that lake has gone. When it re-opened it was amazing. I guess all the catch and keep fishermen and the lack of patrolling the lake has really taken it's toll. Small lake gets a lot more pressure than it used to. It's in my backyard and all I'll do on it anymore is sit for catfish. Haven't fished it lately, too close to home to 'get out' and go fishing
retro basser
Well, you could always work on impressing the Mother-in-Law Actually it is good to have some confirmation i'm not (going) crazy out there. After seeing some of the fish you land it does make me feel better to know you gave it run and got the same basic results. I've thrown a good variety of rigs and lures at them this season as well and honestly it seems like senko's are about the only thing they hit with any regularity. But yeah, they are almost always dinks. Also I've never seen any significant regulation, but I have seen some 'less than classy' types out there so I'll agree it's possible people are baggin the lil ones. I really like the scenery up there but it might be time to consider moving on to bigger/different waters. I'm in North Lawrence so it's exactly the same distance to go to Perry... I think I might throw that into the mix too. It's alot bigger than the waters i'm used to but I once put my trusty ol basser in there and got up Rock Creek pretty easily. I might try that again. I'd love to hear if you guys know of any places to get off to a good start there.
Chris311
Went and fished La Cygne for 4 hours before the heat was just to much with my little guy Jake! One bass almost 6 and the largest crappie I have ever caught! WT 82 bass caught on shakey head and crappie on a chrome and blue crankbait. retro basser
@Patience I do love the scenery and wildlife up there, Couple weeks ago Ihad a doe come down and drink from the lake 12 feet from me. Hell, we even saw what we think was a Golden Eagle one time last season nested in the NW wetland area at the top of the lake. Have one of those fly right over your head and you'll know what it feels like to be the prey. Great country, wish it was bassy.

I'd love to hear if you guys know of any places to get off to a good start there. I usually do my best in the marinas by the dam at Perry, you can fish them with about any size boat really because they're protected. There is one stretch of docks in the smaller west arm just past the bridge that holds good fish sometimes. The bridge rip-rap by Slough Creek bridge and then the standing timber up into Evans creek has good fish sometimes. I haven't fished up north very far but I did put in at Old Town one time and did pretty well. By far my best bait is a blackberry or blueberry colored baby brush hog but any dark colored soft plastic can be good. I've also done well with square bill cranks and occassionally spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.
retro basser
Awesome! Thanks for the tips Blue, I'll check em out. Now I'm all fired up to go fish Perry. Might try to snag a few wipers up there too I hear it's loaded with em.

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 8, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 8, 2011 Had a pretty good weekend this week. Started early Tuesday morning at Pleasanton City Lake West and got a 5lb 14oz fish. Fried the fuse holder on my trolling motor so we had to go get a new one so we decided to hop over to Pleasanton City Lake East where I got a nice 19 1/2 incher that I forgot to weigh Had a big grin because I was still busy giving my buddy a hard time for losing his LC RC 1.5 right before I set the hook on this fish. She was right on the edge of a weedline on the island and I caught her on a Havoc pit boss. My biggest surprise was this morning. I decided to go out to Wyandotte County Lake to try to catch a few before it got too hot. I was just starting to think about heading home when I set the hook on what I thought was a drum. When she ran for the surface and I saw it was a smallmouth I started doing a bunch of begging for the fish to please stay hooked. She jumped 3 times despite me having my rod up to almost the top of the cork in the water. She ate a GP/chartruese tail BPS Stik-O on a shakeyhead in about 8 feet of water and weighed 4lbs 3oz, less than a pound from the lake record. 20.5 inches long and 13 inches around, measured her because I'm thinking I might want a replica done of her. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 17, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 17, 2011 Fished Miami State Lake on Tuesday from about 5:30am-3:30pm. We caught well over 50 fish and I'd probably guess between 75-100 between the three of us. A jig caught us lots of fish and most of our bigger ones. Lots of fish on swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and a squarebill also. No monsters but tons of fish from 2 1/2-3 1/2 with one 4 even that I caught on a crankbait. The piers and the brush in the middle of the lake produced most of our fish but there was also lots of fish schooling and blowing up on shad in the middle of the lake. It's a rough trip out there but it was well worth the effort!

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 18, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 18, 2011 My thumbs doing alright, a little scratched up still but I'll survive. I've heard from others that have been to Miami lately that it has been hot! If you want to go somewhere that is easy to fish and catch a bunch of quality fish I would try to plan a trip there soon! It seems to me that getting there early is best because the topwater bite is usually pretty good and it gets a little tougher later in the day, like most lakes do. Super User skunked_again Posted June 18, 2011 Super User Share Posted June 18, 2011 id go to Miami more but the gravel roads keep me away. tonight is the all night fishing at kill creek, the place has a great night bite.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 19, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 19, 2011 It is some pretty nasty dirt roads getting out there. If you go to 359th street to Somerset you only have to be on dirt roads for about 4 or 5 miles. I just stop when I get to Somerset and put all my rods in the cab of the truck so I don't give them dust baths and go. With my aluminum boat I'm not really worried about trying to keep it shiny. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 25, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 25, 2011 Went to Kill Creek for a couple hours after I got off work this morning, man it was tough! Wind was blowing harder than they said it would be and more sun. Seems like it's always tough out there for me when it's sunny out. The wind was kicking my butt in my little jonboat, started just letting it float against stumps and flipping everything before I pushed off and fished another area. Tons of weeds, hard to even flip the deeper trees because of all the weeds. Just a couple light hits flipping jigs and plastics. All of the fish I caught were on cranks or traps and all pretty small. Think I'll stick to fishing out there when it's cloudy or late in the day.

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 26, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted June 26, 2011 That's a good solid fish for Kill Creek. I took a friend out there last year and he had a fish pull him down into a tree and break him off. We assumed it was a cat but I guess there is actually bass big enough to do that out there too. Good luck at Hillsdale, I've heard it has been tough, even tougher than usual.
Chris311
Fished Lacygne for 10 hours Sunday, one fish maybe 2 pounds at the very end of the day, threw everything in the tackle box, shaky head, cranks, jigs black and blue, I fished almost the entire lake even ran all the way back into the river, went home not very happy!!! retro basser
Man I had a couple paragraphs all written out on here last week, and I when I clicked 'post' the whole website crashed. This thing needs to quit going offline for days at a time. Something tells me this forum has been bought and sold a bunch of times and the last thing these guys care about is gettin' bassy. I had a couple nice trips out to lonestar awhile back but my big motor is out so I gotta delay any big water fishing till i get a new part in the mail, which should be any day now...heres to hoping. Maybe it was all the cold-fronts coming through making it tough out there but it sounds like the summer doldrums have kicked in huh?...guess i'll look deep and pray they are hungry when I get to chase em' again.
