Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 22, 2011 Went to Miami State Lake with a friend and his son yesterday and fought the wind. Caught a lot of fish but they were lacking the size that lake usually produces. Lots of 8-14 inch fish and some even smaller. I had one on a 78 pointer shorter than the bait by probably an inch. Most of them were on jerkbaits except for a few on spinnerbaits and a couple on cranks. We all caught some fish though so it was a pretty decent day. We tried fishing for crappie also but even with minnows under a bobber we couldn't catch any. I guess when a game warden says there aren't many in the lake you should take their word for it . Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 23, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 23, 2011 Went to Wyandotte County Lake yesterday to see if the bass had started biting out there. First cast I had a nice smallmouth chase my jerkbait to the boat. A few casts later I boated my first Wyco smallmouth of the year. Next casts I caught a small largemouth and then I went back to where the first smallmouth chased my bait and threw a different jerkbait and got him. Caught a few more before my friend meet me at the ramp and quickly caught his first Wyco bass of the year. The bass weren't biting great but the trout were going nuts. It didn't take me long to get my limit. Wind was terrible but at least we got out there and caught a few!

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 24, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 24, 2011 What are you getting them on at killcreek? I might go out there before work for a couple hours tomorrow if I don't have to work overtime tonight.

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 24, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 24, 2011 They put some pretty big ones in Wyandotte every spring. I've had a few over 4 pounds out of there. I don't eat them but some of the guys I work with act like they just won the lottery when you bring them some trout fillets.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 25, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 25, 2011 Went to Kill Creek before work yesterday from noon to 2:45. Had 18 bass, 2 crappie, and 1 bluegill all on a 78 pointer. Bass were all pretty small like usual. One of my bigger ones might have gone 15 inches. Biggest surprise of the day was the second crappie I caught. The picture doesn't do it justice but it had to be in the 13-15 inch range, I didn't know they made them that big out there! I hope these next few cold days don't ruin what little progress the lakes have made around here. :-/
shaun_reid
Hey gang, Im new to the forum and came across it looking for spots to fish in or around the joco area. Im from Wichita but play baseball at Johnson County so am unfamiliar with the area fishing wise. Im really just needing some of you to point me in the right direction to catch some bass. I don't have my boat up here so that limits me on what I can do. We have tried a couple parks in the area but have had no luck really. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Hey shaun, Welcome to this forum. I'm fairly new to this forum also. I'm originally from Wichita myself. I have been living up here north of Topeka since 2002. I can't help ya much on Joco lakes but are you living up there or in Wichita? I don't have my boat either for a few days and it's driving me nuts. Stick around. Lots of good info here. Bluebasser, it's OK if you have to take a day off and give those fishies a break.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 27, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 27, 2011 Get a Kansas fishing atlas from Wal-Mart or sporting goods store. It has almost all of the public water in the state in there with maps of the JOCO area ones along with the ones in your area. Killcreek is one of the best if you're stuck on the bank but make sure you get your Johnson county permit also. Gardner city lake, Olathe lake, and Cedar lake can be ok but they can be a huge waste of time also. Getfished-I harassed the fish at Lake Lenexa Thursday with only 8 small ones to show for a couple hours effort. With me working evenings, having time before work everyday, and having a small jonboat that fits in the back of my truck I can go almost every day. Since I work in Gardner I have several options close to work too. This cold weather is going to put a damper on my plans for my weekend though. :'( Probably go move some deer stands and look for sheds and wish for warmer weather. Getfished
I hear ya Bluebasser about this weather. I've only been to Gardner twice but both time it was real good to me. I've been to a picnic at Kill creek but never fished it before. I can't get it out of my mind. It looks awesome. My boat is in for some service. I'm having fits with my website and that is taking all my time lately. Today I'm headed to KC to visit some friends and make a stop by BPS. There is only one item on the list and the baitmonkey better behave or I'll... I'll........... well I'll do the best I can. ;D

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 29, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted March 29, 2011 Some of them were on the voodoo, some were on a 78 pointer, some were on a Bevy shad. All of the baits I was fishing were suspending baits. The trout were all caught on super secret squirrel stuff ;D.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 5, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted April 5, 2011 Decided to go out today despite the crappy weather because it's still my day off so we were going fish either way. My buddy (kanasbassfisher08) met me and we headed out to Pleasonton East City Lake. I honesly wasn't hoping for much, maybe a few small ones and a day out of the house. We started by squeezing through into a small pond connected to the lake with a little clearer and warmer water. Chris started fast with a nice fish right at 4lbs on a spinnerbait. Picture did it no justice. We caught a couple more small bass and a crappie before Chris stuck another good fish on a jig, this one was 4lbs 1oz He was feeling pretty good about having a couple solid fish while all I had was a couple dinks. We left the pond for the main lake. Fished across the dam with no luck. I saw a swirl at the edge of a dead weed line. Tossed a spinnerbait to the spot twice and stuck this nice one. It went 5lbs 7oz. I felt a little better to have a good one in the boat. A few casts later I stuck another one on a spinnerbait that was probably between 3 1/2 or 4lbs. Fished along catching a small one once in awhile before we got to a small submerged island. I threw and Excaliber One Knocker across the edge of it and caught a nice wiper. Next casts I caught another bigger one. The wind was terrible so we packed up and went to Pleasanton West City Lake. We caught a few small ones on spinnerbaits before I picked up my Excaliber One Knocker and caught a prespawn female that looked like she was about to pop! Wind was blowing to hard to weigh her but she was 5+ for sure. I lost one more good one on a jig before we called it a day. Our biggest 5 would have been in the low to mid 20's. Awesome day for any day but really amazing considering the conditions!
retro basser
Holy schmoley what a day. Either I need to get south or this warm weekend needs to have done something to water temps. Iv'e been to Leavenworth Co twice this season and the water's been in the low 50's but still the bite seems ice-cold.
Chris311
Fished Lacygne Saturday from 7am til 1pm, WT 70's, wind kicked up and every place I ran had 8 to 10 boats piled up in there. Must have been 40 trucks in the parking lot, one guy said they had 18 from one club fishing a tourny, Wind kicked up and it had 3 foot rollers. Gar and Drum where every place I fished! Super User skunked_again Posted April 12, 2011 Super User Share Posted April 12, 2011 the way a hand full of us live within mins of each other it might not be the worst idea for us to meet up someplace easy like kill creek or lenexa and spend a day on the water. starting as soon as my boats fixed my father and i will fish every wednesday someplace. something to kick around. retro basser
Hit the lake again last night and I did notice more fish suspending in 10 ft of water vs the 15 or so i've seen them at in the past. Also got one good tap on crankbaits that i missed, and a dang good hit on a carolina rigged senko which somehow ended up under a tree limb a split second later. Wish i could have that one back and be paying better attention. They're not agressive that's for sure, but i was kina expecting that since the cold front just passed through a day or so ago. Power trim wont go up now, so maybe the week it will probably take for me to fix that will distract me long enough to return to a feeding frenzy. I'm just wastin gas right now.. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 14, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted April 14, 2011 Fished Melvern on Tuesday 4/12 with a friend. Weather was great and the fishing was about the same. We caught all three species of bass, white bass, crappie, catfish, and walleye. My friend had the biggest smallmouth of the day that went 3lbs and 3oz on a jerkbait. One of my biggest was also on a jerkbait. A couple more smallmouth. My pair of keeper 'eyes on jerkbaits. Love this lake! Just wish it was a little closer! Getfished
Wow ! Those are great pics. Nice fish. I've been so busy and couldn't get back on after the site upgrade. Finally figured out what the issue was. LOL . I was over to Perry Wednesday and picked up a limit of specs from the bank. Thursday I went back and picked up my boat and couldn't get any numbers on account of the wind and the front coming in but did manage a little fodder for the pond. Sounds like you guys are talking bout a get together ? If it is open for all I'd be interested in meeting some of the guys on here also. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 16, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted April 16, 2011 I am guessing you kept the Eyes for yourself and didnt give em away like the trout?? Like the smallys also!! I gave the trout to my buddy that went with me, I'm not a big fish eater. I'll keep a walleye for myself now and then but I usually give them away to someone else that will get more enjoyment out of them than I do. We had a blast catching those smallmouths! They were slamming those jerkbaits and pulling like freight trains! I'm hoping to maybe get back there Tuesday if the weather cooperates!
