ks cranker Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Fished the Wednesday nighter at Wyandotte lake, took 1st for the 3rd week in a row. Those guys are going to stop letting me fish if I keep going like this! Getting the itch to make a Melvern run, anyone been or heard anything lately? What sort of weights have you been getting at Wyco? I'm going to hit Melvern Saturday morning myself. I'm planning on getting there way before sunrise... hopefully I'll be rewarded with some big ol smallies! When are you thinking of going? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 1, 2011 Global Moderator Posted July 1, 2011 Wyandotte is a tough lake with a lot of 14" fish. First week we won with 2 fish and 3.46 and had big bass with a 2.24lb fish. Last week we won with 3 fish and 5 pounds even, this week we won with 5.06lbs and 3 fish. It has been even tougher than usual out there with dirty water, post spawn transitions, and now the shad fry have hatched and have lots of fish roaming open water chasing shad. There are big fish in there, just hard to catch. I had a smallmouth about a month ago that went 4lbs 3oz and the big fish for the tournament so far this year was a 5.55lb largemouth. At least there is supposed to be some cloud cover for you on Saturday, maybe it won't be quite so hot as it was today. If I go it will be on a Tuesday because that's my only full day off every week. I may get lucky and get down there on Monday for the holiday but I'm sure the lake will be rough with all the boaters so I'm not sure if I'll try to fish if I do get down there or not. Let me know how you do! Quote
retro basser Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I got out to Lonestar last night from 4-8 and found a decent school in main water chasing bait and pulled a couple out with a rooster tail. Later I found them suspending around 12 feet just below the top of a main lake point...finally found a good use for a crankbait: casting to the other side of the point so it nicks the top before going over the heads of the bass. No keepers, but it was nice to be able to stay put for once and catch multiple bass out of one spot without them getting spooked. Oddly the bite was best before 6PM while it was still pretty hot. Either they stopped or I wasnt figuring out what they wanted later on. It was a fun trip overall. Quote
retro basser Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 You guys are pretty quiet...hope a little heat with a 30% chance of death isn't keeping you off the lake. I mixed up the strategy some and went out from 7PM - 2 last night. I gotta tell you it felt really good to log some serious hours on the water again. It's amazing how many advantages come with that little time shift over fishing 5-sundown: You get an hour to locate fish or work the shady side of the lake, then you get to fish the entire sundown thouroughly. Traffic both on the roads and on the lake works in your favor. Best of all the fish dont quit biting after dark. I got bit on crankbaits and was catching on a colorado bladed spinner after the sun was long gone. I know this sounds crazy but I think i actually fished better having less vision. You dont realize how much of your cast is pure muscle-memory until you're slinging long casts basically blind and still hitting your spots. Your feeling is more in tune, you're listening better. Basically your not as distracted by what you can look around at and really paying attention to whats UNDER the surface. This is all probably old news to alot of you guys but let me tell you as a guy who's never fished at night for anything but catfish: this did way more towards me becoming a better angler and was a hell of alot more fun. I spent a good amount of time following deep-water contours trying to locate isolated cover, I couldnt shake the idea that there is a bass-city on some piece of cover 20-30 feet down. Call it a hunch, but I really think they are huddled together somewhere in huge numbers. The bass I did catch closer to shoreline were hitting agressive lures and fiesty. They've got the energy to fight, run, jump, and do any little dirty trick they can to spit that lure out. It's good sport, I'll be going back for a night shift. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 21, 2011 Super User Posted July 21, 2011 fished Cedar from 11-3 today. it was hella hot BUT caught fish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 21, 2011 Global Moderator Posted July 21, 2011 Went to Perry Tuesday and had a pretty good day up until about noon when it got really hot. My friends first bass was 4 even. About my 3rd one of the day was 4lbs 3oz. We went to the marina by the dam and were fishing next to that and just about to hope on the dock to get a snack when a 4lb 7oz fish grabbed my shakey head. She dove under a cable but I somehow managed to finesse her back out even with 8lb test. Had around 12 or 15 bass, 1 white, 2 flatheads, and of course a drum. Most fish were on either full sized or baby brush hogs or a trick worm on a shakeyhead. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 21, 2011 Global Moderator Posted July 21, 2011 My friends swear I could catch a drum out of a mudpuddle and it feels like I could some days. I've caught them on cranks, jigs, traps, spoons, grubs, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, and others. If I could get one to eat a topwater I think I would really feel a sense of accomplishment. Quote
uptonfish Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Any of you guys been to Melvern in the past week or so? I'm heading there tomorrow, Wednesday, and thursday. Just wondering what depth the fish were at. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 4, 2011 Global Moderator Posted August 4, 2011 If anyone catches an I-phone in a black otterbox at Miami State lake let me know! I have the worst luck with phones. I had that thing for a whole 3 months before it took a dive out there Tuesday. Worst part is that it was my birthday present from my wife so not only did I loose my phone but my wife was mad at me for it. Fishing was alright out there, tons of small shad schooling and getting eaten. Most of my fish hit a black and purple jig along the piers or brushpiles or a black buzzbaits in the same places. I did have the biggest blowup I've ever had on a swimbait right next to the boat. Didn't see the fish but I'm thinking it had to be a catfish, either that or someone dropped a brick out of a plane while they were flying over. Glad to finally see a break in the heat a little bit this week, I get enough of the night shift at work, I don't need it in my fishing all the time too. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted August 5, 2011 Super User Posted August 5, 2011 we did very well at Kill Creek tonight. Texas rigged purple plastic curly tail. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted August 8, 2011 Super User Posted August 8, 2011 im doing kill creek early tomorrow, ive got no second. anyone wants on the back let me know or show up. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 8, 2011 Global Moderator Posted August 8, 2011 I might be out there. I was going to go to Cedar but with this rain I might change my mind. I was going to go with a guy from work but if he backs out I might be out there and maybe I can jump on with you. It would be a lot better than fishing out of my 12' johnboat . Don't get off work until 8am though so it would be around 8:30 before I could make it out there if that's where I end up at. Quote

Chris S Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I lost my account some how, now I started a new one today! Hillsdale has been a hot spot for my son and I this year for Bass and Walleye! I am so glad this weather is backing off, night fishing was my only option for the past few weeks! Here are few pics! Blue sorry to hear about your phone man that sucks! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 11, 2011 Global Moderator Posted August 11, 2011 Nice fish Chris! What are you getting those walleye on? Skunked-you must have been a little too far north. We got to Cedar at about 8:15 and fished until 10 when the next wave of storms blew through and barely got sprinkled on, sun even came out for awhile. It was pretty tough but I think I caught 8, all about 15-17 inches. Fished Wyandotte Tuesday, lots of fish but all dinks. Got one nice smallmouth on a popper, 16 3/4 inches. The schoolies started busting shad all over on the north end of the lake and it was pretty fast and furious for awhile, even got a double on a super spook jr. Fished the Wednesday nighter out there tonight and it was really tough, probably caught 10 fish all night between the two of us, no keepers. 12 boats, 24 fishermen, 5 keepers. First place was 1 fish and 2.08lbs, doesn't get much tougher than that, maybe next week. Quote
Chris S Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Blue sent you a message! Anyone heard surface temps at La Cygne in the past week or so??? Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted August 12, 2011 Super User Posted August 12, 2011 i beat the tar out of kill creek yesterday with a spook. fun fishing. Quote

Chris S Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Fished Hillsdale Monday with my son Jake, no one catching anything so we set up the troll and managed 4 decent white bass to take home, biggest a little over 2 pounds, just nice to get out and not sweat to death!! WT 78-76 Quote
retro basser Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I just got my truck fixed up from the tree that fell on it last big storm so i went out both Friday and Saturday this weekend. At Perry alot of guys were fishing the Slough Creek bridge riprap. I did a little exploring elsewhere around there. I really like that drop in, there are alot of options right around there. Caught a striper and 3 largemouths at various places. I still need to go down to the marina and try but i'm learning a couple of spots around there. On Saturday I took my daughter up to leavenworth so she could catch one. She officially caught her first fish all by herself. That little pink reel takes up so little line on each turn that it actually took her awhile to 'land' that monster, which was great cause she was flipping out the whole time bringing it in. In other news we got caught in a rain squall with her new guinea pig on board. Apparently just a hint of hypothermia is great for killing those things... he got out safe fortunatley. Good trip. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 16, 2011 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2011 Went to Olathe Lake Thursday morning after work and fished from the bank for about an hour to an hour and a half. Just walked the dam and caught 9 fat, healthy looking bass. None real big, had one probably 16 1/2 to 17 inches was the biggest. 7 on a buzzbait, 1 on a shakeyhead, 1 on a squarebill. This cooler weather seems to be getting them going pretty well. Fished Wyandotte Wednesday night and thought the cold front would kill the bite. We caught fish steady and even fast a couple times all night on buzzbaits and shakeyheads. Hoping to get to Melvern Monday and Tuesday. Quote
