When we got back from South Carolina I was just going into days off so what else would I do but go fishing? My buddy Tony and I hit Lake Wabaunsee and tore them up. Tony caught his first ever smallmouth and it was an absolute giant!

One of my first fish was a 13.5" crappie that hit a 3/8oz chatterbait. Apparently I was disappointed with catching a monster crappie?

We caught a bunch of keeper (18") largemouth and a couple smallmouth that were close but no real big ones. I did jump off a 5-6 pound largemouth on a jig though.

Nice one on a spinnerbait.

17.5" smallie on a senko skipped under a dock. I caught a 17" or bigger smallmouth out from under 3 docks in a row starting with this fish, all on a senko in about 3' of water.

Just another ho hum 18-19 incher on a jig next to a dock, and Tony's finger.

Not sure how many Tony caught but I had 62 bass plus several crappie and sunfish.

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

To end my fishing marathon (fished for at least a little bit every day from Tuesday the 14th to Friday the 24th) Cbass12 and I fished Olathe from 11-2 today. We killed them for Olathe. Had probably 25-30 fish, mostly on shakyheads but a couple on jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and a power minnow. Biggest surprise was we got onto the saugeye on a shakyhead?? We caught 4 keepers and I hooked a giant on a power minnow that felt like it cut my line like a pike almost. I set the hook and got several big, heavy walleye head shakes before the line just parted like nothing. I'd just tied it and checked the knot so it had to been cut by something sharp. Sure would have liked to have seen that one. Ryan and his wife should get a couple good meals out of it though.

Took my son Cammy (He is on the Autism Spectrum) to the local pond. He had a blast with his Cars Fishing Pole.

Nobody has been fishing??

I am very upset with myself.  Last Saturday was one of those very rare Saturdays I could go fishing and when the alarm clock went off at 4:30 bed was feeling awfully nice.  I was going to go Sunday morning, but there were severe storms rolling through in the early morning and 30+ winds in the afternoon.  I can't go this weekend or next so it might be 4 weeks since the last time I wet a line!!! Arrgghhhhh!!!!

I hear you about having an affair with sleep. I dont get alot during the week working 3rd. So Im not too hard on myself if I over sleep a planned trip.

Makes up for majority of my spur of the moment trips

any size at the east lake because i live a mile from it and fish it all the time and i just cant seem to catch bigger fish catch a ton of small ones. thats why i mostly go to the mound city lake i just feel like there big fish over there.

well there are some good fish in that lake alot of 14 to 16 inchers but did catch alot of 2lbers but like i said it was windy so i couldnt really pic them apart but was a fun day throwing a spinner bait and buzzbait. and back in the coves got to flip some stuff and those seemed to be the bigger bites in the brush and laydowns. have seen 6pbers come out of there so i know there in there. west lake is good to and seen a 6 out of there too and alot of 2lbers in there. that makes it fun

Well, just bought my Ontario fishing license on line!  :laughing7:   Gonna be a long week since we don't leave until next Saturday.

Man were they eating this morning! 29 bass and 3 huge whites on a trap this morning in 30 minutes, from the bank!

You're such a liar, telling me you were going home to bed after work.... Gardner or Olathe?

I did go home...to get my fishing pole  :eyebrows:  I took the dog for a run around the Gardner Greenway and then went to Gardner until the rain got really heavy. The white bass I had this morning were probably 2-2.5 pounds, about as big as any I've ever caught.

Went to Miami SFL today with a buddy. The lake has really gotten weedy so we primarily used frogs which was fine with us. Between the two of us we had 51 largemouth, a sunfish and almost a snake.

Any good ones?

I also hit miami, it was last week but we caught a lot of fish with only one of them being decent size the rest were dinks but it was fun

Any good ones?

The biggest was maybe 16". The rest were small.

Hit LOZ over the weekend for some Memorial Day fishing and partying. Couldn't get much of a pattern on them, and the water was still in the upper '60s. One 2lber on a T rigged black/red flake Zoom Dead Ringer off a dock brushpile. Topwater would have been an option if I was capable of waking up early, but again the whole partying thing... I did however catch a new personal best, in the form of a 23lb flathead! Never a bad idea to leave a catfish line in...man was that fun!

Another good morning from the bank at Gardner. Over 2 dozen bass, including a double.

null_zps6f7e3872.jpg

Had a few more white bass but not as big. Also got a 19" saugeye. For some reason they shut down completely after I caught him though??

Nice job as usual Clayton. I have never had a double, I imagine it is pretty cool.

On another note how is Melvern at this time of year? I am wanting to head out there this weekend if the weather cooperates. It is free fishing weekend so I get to fish without purchasing a KS license.

It is usually pretty good by now but they can get scattered out and eating about anything so it can be hard to get a pattern dialed in. Last time I went was a few weeks ago and we caught fish on a little of everything with nothing really standing out as the best bait. The water may have warmed up enough to change that by now though.

Oh what? You can double up without dragging an A-rig?  :respect-059:

Anybody in the KC area going fishing this weekend and have an empty back seat?  It doesn't matter to me where, I just want to catch some fish.  Smallmouth bass would be a bonus too!!!  The last few times I have been out we catch maybe 3-4 fish.. its getting old.

Pm me if you are going and have a spot available.

Thanks

Kyle

You know, I've doubled up several times and I've fished the A-rig quite a bit, not once have I doubled up on an A rig. Those fish yesterday doubled up on an Excaliber XR50, which I've doubled up with at least 3 times now. I've done it a few times on jerkbaits, a time or two on poppers, several times on cranks, and once on a super spook jr.

Decided to hit up some farm ponds with a buddy this weekend. He told me that they don't get much fishing pressure so we should be able to catch a bunch.

I was going to PM but it looks like you got it covered, plus my 8 year old is going and he hogs the back of the boat!

I appreciate it. It has been a long time since I have been pond fishing so I am really looking forward to it. I think we are going after bass, bluegill and catfish.

The Lake of the Ozarks Mid-Lake has been on fire the last 2 weeks (5-17 thru 5/27) for me. A Carolina rigged senko in 2-6' on pea gravel humps has been the best. Rage Craw, rattle trap, and top water poppers also produced. Caught 50+ large and spotted over 5 days. Most were males 1-2lbs but hitting like freight trains. Had 4 over 3lbs and a PB 6.5lbs! Going back 6/6 and hope the bite is still on!
