Springfield,IL area lakes i.e. Sanchris, Lake springfield, or any other local spots

Featured Replies

I would like to get feed back on Lakes in my area. Is there anyone that has fished these area's?

Hey. I have fished Sangchris a few times in the last couple of months. Have done alright with chrome (blue or black back) rattle trap. Shad colored Rapala shad rap. Or catch 'em all day long on a shakey head (green pumpkin). Best luck in hot water ditch on main lake points. Hope that helps. It's been a while since I fished Springfield. Only fished it once (in a tournament). Got a good limit and won fishing a senko around rip rap near the plant. Good luck to ya.

P.S. Nice crappie at Sangchris

I live about 25 miles north of springfield and have fished Sanchris quite a bit the past couple of years.  Its a pretty nice lake but when the weather breaks its very pressured.  I always did the best with a t-rigged baby brush hog or 7" powerworm.  I did descent on spinnerbaits also.  I would also suggest Site M or Panther Creek. Whichever you prefer to call it.  Its located between Petersburg and Channlerville area.  There are three small lakes there.  The biggest lake is no wake through the whole lake.  The other two smaller lakes are elecric motor only.  They are all really nice lakes though.  LOTS of vegitation!  I really like throwing t-rigged plastics and jigs there.  There are some nice largemouth in them lakes.

I live in Ohio, but every summer i go to Springfield 2-3 times.  I always fish on lake there.  I go to Otter lake which is a tad outside Girard.  I love it and I wont fish anywhere else.  The lake has severalk good areas and i have never been blanked there.

Im back again...I havent yet posted 10 times and i have a link to post for you about otter lake. either this post will let or the next one... anyhow, I have very good success using orange bottomed crank baits such as crawdads. The best fishing, I think is on the other side of the bridge away from the boat ramp. Under the bridge is always a hotbed too, but its very small opening. Once you get through the bridge, the riprap is usually nice and there are several weed beds too. The best thing about otter lake is the tons of little coves to fish in with plenty of downed trees. You may get "lucky" and have a muskie tear your bass gear up too or you might get a hybrid or 5. Its a fun lake and the best time is to get out before the other boats chop it up.

Well thank you for the info. I to enjoy otter lake. I have a friend with a camper there. I have not gotten to fish it in a couple of years though.

Fished Sangchris a few times last year. Get out early spring if you can. This is a cooling lake for Kincaid Station. In the summer months water stays pretty hot escepically in the center arm. Each arms has bays whcih seems to hold more fish due to cooler water. This lake also produced the state record Striper. Has a 25 HP limit but does not seem to be enforced seen boats with more HP most likely locals who know what they can get away with. I fish Bass but have seen locals with good catches of catfish. Caught fish on all presentations, figure out what they want and 20-30 bass can be boated between 1-5 lbs, mostly on the small size.
