Is the use of Lead drop shot&worm weights legal in ME freshwater lakes?

That doesn't answer the OP's question, as selling and using are two different things. Here in NY it is illegal to sell lead weights under 1/2 oz. as well, but their use is not illegal.

The banning of lead is getting to be everywhere these days. Just have to suck it up! I don't use the expensive tungsten weights. I'm sorry, a buck+ for a sinker! Not in the cards for me. I do use steel, however. Works well, is cheap and environmentally friendly....and does away with the lead. Back to tungsten - if it ever comes down to sinkers, whether one fisherman or another is successful, I'll give up fishing!  

I use lead  & steel and sometimes brass and will continue to use lead until the price for tungston is reasonable.  $7 for a 1 OZ weight is insane.  I will stop flipping and pitching before I fork over $7 for a weight.

I care about the enviroment, but dont have the $ to lose 3 $7 flipping weights a day or 5 or 6 $2 drop shot weights a day.  I would love to know what the profit margin is on the tungston weights.   >

They made fishing with lead illegal here in Maine's freshwater ponds and lakes cause our loon population was dying off cause they were ingesting the weights and dying from poisoning

Legal to use in Maine. You just won't find any stores in Maine selling them cause it is illegal to sell them. Buy all you need before you come here. Have fun!

You can't buy it in Maine but you can use it. I oder mine through Bass pro.

You can use but not sell. Am i missing something? Tell me how exactly that decreases the lead in the water.

Because the percentage of people who will pour their own or go out of state just to buy and use lead is small. most will use up their current stash of lead weights then start buying nonlead sinkers. So in the short run it doesn't do much but in the long run it should.

To be honest with you, screw the loons, How many have you seen floating dead around the lakes? Unless they eat so much lead that they sink . Everywhere I fish there are loons all over the place, and I have not seen any dead loons. I use lead and will continue to use lead because I do most of my shopping online.

I think it is just another environmental hoax, like global warning, just to get you to spend more money.
