Raystown Lake in March

1/2 oz pink buzzbaits fished over the main river channel!

I have two tournaments there then too  ;)

I am also in that tournament.  I agree pink would be the choice I would use. ;)

What tournament series are you guys fishing in?

It's a club tourney.

I assumed it was a club tourney.  Trying to figure out which one.  I am looking to join and fish in one this year.

Sorry about that! I was thinking you were talking about a series like ABA or FOM. This is a south central club. If memory serves me right, they're Cumberland Valley (help me out there Matt!). I haven't joined the club, but mjhutch is my cousin so I know a little bit about them.

Prefish if you are allowed, it will tell you more than advice from an internet fishing pro.

James creek is where everyone says to fish. I only fished there twice last year and never really found a good pattern. The fish I caught were all over the lake and the only thing I can add of value is the pattern definately changes if the water is moving.

Expect "company" if you fish James Creek area.  Not saying its a bad area just usually has a concentration of boats for tounaments.

I could show you 100 "good" spots to fish there.  You could fish 99 of those and not catch a fish , then try the 100th and load the boat.

That lake is very fickle because of the shad.  You really do have to figure the fish out almost on a daily basis.  So prefish is paramount.

I don't need 100 spots.  30 or 40 will do ;D I have fished the lake many times before but always in the fall or later in the year than March.  Looking for as much info as I can get before we prefish so we have a better idea where and what.  That lake is tough enough without having to go in blind and dumb.  Thanks again everyone for the information and the advice.  Please keep it coming.

Does anyone fish primarily for smallies that time of year?

It was funny... I had a FOM tourney there on April 2...  my partner and I were jerkin (no pun intended) all day... I was using a Chartruese shad LC Pointer and nailing small mouths all day, and my partner was throwing a different pattern of the same pointer (i forget which one it was) and he was only catchin largemouth..  I dont think you will have a problem catchin them if you find a point and the wind is blowing... the harder the wind blew.. the harder they were biting

A big bag of smallies would be nice!

Points and steep rock. The steep stuff is usually on the channels. Look for ledges, under 20'. I crank these alot that time of year, bagleys DB3 and Rapala dt20, but last year I got some on shakey heads too. I fish mostly between MM 19 and 26. March is pretty early, Water is still gonna be pretty cold! Good luck!
