Any buzzbait fisherman, that want to share some of their great experience?

any new tips or techniques to fish a buzzbait?

I do nothing really special with a buzzbait.  I fish them year round.  I fish them fast and slow.  I let them drop and I spit them on top of the water.  

I do catch alot of bass on them and I also caught that crappie that you can see under my username.

Buzz baits the bite is on or it aint

Love em at night when it's dead still or a slight breeze

Love em with a klacker blade

Love em with a high pitched squeal

i always run a trailer hook 8-) to many short strikes if i don't :'( zimmy

The bait you posted looks pretty neat.  My best producing Buzzbaits are the Wareagles.  $3.99-$4.99 at most places and they cast well, make good noise right out of the pack, and they stay on top very well.  Like Zimmy said, be sure to use a trailer hook.  

Delay your hookset until you feel weight or a full second after the strike.    

I have always been of the opinion that buzz baits were for low light and would usually have one tied on when I launched at "safe light" and would throw it until the sun touched the water and then put it down and not pick it up again all day.  I would also bring them out in the evening when the sun had started to set.  However. last year I fished in a tournament with a guy on a day when the air tem was about 32 and the winds were 25 - 35 mph and there was a blue bird sky.  He threw a buzzer all day long and outfished me about 5 to one :-[.  Now I am really confused.  Last night I saw a Jimmy Houston show where he was talking about buzz baits and said that you can catch 'em using buzzers any time of the day and any day of the year.  I am really having to re-think this whole thing.  Will watch for more responses to your post.

I also try to bang them into cover, timber, dock posts, etc. to get a reaction strike. I also like to get a slow gurgle on top the water rather than a fast buzz. Like others have said, don't forget a trailer hook & hesitate before setting the hook.

Use a trailer hook and keep 'em wet.  8-)

First, as has been said, ALWAYS use a trailer hook.  Secondly, I sometimes have luck removing the skirt and replacing it with a fluke or other suitable soft plastic.  It gives pressured fish something different to look at and occasionally it works.

I'll add that you'll probably want to use a higher gear ratio reel.I use a 6.3:1 ratio, it helps get the lure onto the surface more quickly. It seems that the higher pitch noise or squeak of the blade seems to work the best. I don't know if its coincidence or the fish like it more.

I never use a trailer hook.

probably because I have my best luck with them rippng them righ through the emergent grass.

I agree that the buzzbait bite is either on or not.  Like any bait they can work at any time, but typically I find that they are a very low light bait.

I also don't use a high speed reel preferring to reel the buzz bait just fast enough to keep it on the surface.

What brand of buzzbait is that in the original post?  That thing is cool....I NEED ONE or TEN!!!

I bang buzzbaits into anything I can see. Hit structure from every conceivable angle to generate strikes from the bass. Cast beyond the structure and retrieve at different rates, typically going with the slowest retrieve you can get away with.

Make sure that u always feel the fish befor you set the hook.

Use a dark skirt for night, yellow for murky water and anything for clear to stained water.

When I get a new buzzbait, I take about 6inches of fishing line and tie it onto the eye of the lure. Then I tie it onto my truck antenna and ride around for about a week.

HAHA, I hang it out the window....Glad to see I am not the only vehicle going down the road making that noise!!!!   ;D ;D

OK, here is a new one for you guys.

Take your buzzbait and cut the wire shaft between the hook and head in half.

Reconnect them by using a strong swivel.

Take each cut end and put it through each eye of the swivel and loop the wire back onto itself.

This will give the buzzbait a more realistic look and when the fish hit it they will get hooked as the tail end of the bait can now "swing" and be easier to catch the fish.

Just thought I would add my two cents to the discussion.

sam  kb kindle here     they make a buzzbait just about the way you say  i have about a couple dozen   they break right at the skirt line and skirt and hook lays at about a 45 deg angle in water    my catch ratio with this buzzbait is just about  0.. if you have to use a trailor and i dont un less they are hitting sooooooo short  you have to put trailor hook so point is up or you will get hung on every thing  kb   and have they got a neat clacker system

Like Avid and Catt, no trailer hook here.... ever.  A skirt color change or length adjustment to the skirt will usually remedy the short strike.  One thing I do to my buzzers is to replace the original rivet (aluminum) with a steel one that has sat outside a little while.  These squeal better and last alot longer.

Ok, can't resist, will share a thing: When you retrieve a buzzbait next to a bush which is visible, or next to a stump that looks like it could hide a bass, stop the steady retrieve for about two seconds right next to the structure so that the buzzbait just goes under the surface, then start it again. I had strikes much more than once happenning right after re-starting the retrieve. I discovered it by accident, but it works

And of course, always, always, attach a trailer hook!
