I dig westerns.  It would be hard for me to just pick one though.  My top three would have to be Tombstone, The Magnificent Seven and Winchester '73.

I like Tombsone I also enjoy some of the older ones like El Derado(spelling) with John Wayne.  My Dad is really into them and got me into them when I was young.

Not a big westerns fan but a few that come to mind are, in no particular order

Outlaw Josey Wales

The Longriders

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

How about Texas Across The River, This show was goooood. Stared Dean Martin

And Up Hill All The Way, Staring Roy Clark and Mel Tellis.  ;D

Any of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns.  My personal favorite is "For a Few Dollars More"

I like Tombstone, probably followed by The Sacketts/Conagher tied, then Lonesome Dove. Now that I think about it, Open Range might rank second. It was a pretty darn good movie (probably one of the best shoot-outs ever at the end of it). Some of you have listed Wyatt Earp, but I found it a bit drawn out more than Tombstone. Maybe if I had watched Wyatt Earp first.

Sounds like I need to see Open Range.

The Searchers!

My number one is Pale Rider. Others I enjoy are The Outlaw Josey Wales, Jeremiah Johnson, and Lonesome Dove

You guys are forgetting about Sergio Leone's classic, "One Upon a Time in the West"

Also, "The Wild Bunch" by Peckinpah, a movie 30 years ahead of its time in terms of direction.

"The Shootist" is my favorite John Wayne movie, while "Tombstone" is my favorite modern western.

In regards to "Jeremiah Johnson", it is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. I love Pollack's direction in this movie. It reminds me alot of the John Ford films in reagrd to its use of scenery. It was filmed almost in its entirety on Redford's property. But I really don't consider it a western. More of an adventure movie, I'd say.

forgot about Jeremiah Johnson...def one of the top of all time...hasn't been on in forever...hmmmm...maybe a quick search on half * for a cheap dvd copy is in order

btw...my youngest's name is Jeremiah....guess what his last name is?

Great movies mentioned by everyone.  I love any Sergio Leonne or Clint Eastwood westerns.  "Open Range" is great.  My top western would have to be "Dances With Wolves."

Anything with Clint Eastwood.  :) Unforgiven is probably my favorite. ;)

I loved all the John Wayne, Clint Eastwood , Henry Fonda westerns. In fact I love all the westerns. I would have to say I really liked The Cowboys , The Shootist, Outlaw Josie Wales, Rooster Cogburn ..... they are all classics in there own way. I guess the days of good westerns and the bigger than life heros are over, sad. :'( :)
