No. I pronounce it correctly. I have lived in MO my entire life and still unsure of why people cannot pronounce it correct. Retardation, I assume.

The only reason I can think of as to why the "Missurruh" may have started is that "Missouri" sounds kinda like "misery", and maybe some folks didn't like that...

It always cracks me up when someone says "I'm from Misserruh!"  

I believe is a southern slang pronunciation.  Like  Yall, Fixin, Yonder and so forth.

I've just always called it "that state up there right above us".  That way I don't have to worry about saying it correctly.

According to my english teacher friend there is no correct pronunciation for a proper noun. Example I used to work for guy in New Orleans whose last name was "RICHARD" (Rich ard) he would kill you. He was a proud cajun (french canadian) it's pronounced (Reee shard) or he would kill you. He really wasn't violent. JM 2 cents.
