Things Shaky at Work

Featured Replies

Hey Fellas: well I have had this job, I love for going on 12 years now. Our center has been hit by a huge amount of violence and termination of students, this caused our rating to go way down.

Last week they fired the directors, and now we have a corporate DEPUTY DIRECTOR (aka Axe Person) headed our way to take over several departments. I work hard and love my job, so did my director and he is gone! I know when the team is doing bad, the coach gets fired cause you can't fire the whole team, but this has me shaken up a bit.

My Higher Power has always put me where i am most needed and sometimes with reluctance on my part, I hope his plan is for me to saty here a while with these kids, as my work is not yet complete here

Oh boy. You have a big problem.

You could ask to see the Ax Guy and speak with him about what you are doing in the organization.

Or, just keep doing your job.

Dress a little better; keep yourself looking pretty every day; don't make waves.  Put a little more into your work and look like you are really enjoying it. Smile and be friendly.

Ask the Ax Guy if he fishes or some other interest you know he is interested.

When he is out of his office, you can always check his pictures and awards and college degree that many people put on their walls, desk or credenzas.

Sometimes getting rid of upper management is all that is needed to help cut costs and give the organization a different direction.

The "workers" can be left alone unless there is a clunker that can be let go without the threat of a Civil Rights law suit or an EEOC action.

My CPA was one of those "Ax Guys" so if you want me to ask him what you should do and not do please PM me.

Good luck.

My job is about saving kids, not kissing butt. What I do I do with Integrity and I do my best, if it is not enough for this lady, then I gotta go. I ain't a politician  ::)

Thoughts and prayers are with you......those kids need you.....I sure hope the new director has the vision to see that!!

Stick to your guns Dom.  My old shop I worked for had an Ax lady come in as well a couple years ago.  We didn't know it at the time but her job was to dismantle the place (employee wise).  I was a lucky one. I was the first to go.  I made waves and spoke up if things weren't right and that's the last kind of person she needed around, forget the fact my production was the best in the shop along with a lot of other successful accomplishments during my tenure there.

She chopped the place from 80 people down to a dozen.  Those few that are left played the *** kissing game and still have their jobs but they're miserable.  Sometimes you have to stand on your own merits and yours sound very justified.  If they can't appreciate that then they don't deserve you.

Sadly, the ones that'll lose are those you're helping.

I hope all goes well but I would prepare for the worst and hope for the best.  I have been through 2 Axe Men at two different jobs.  The first was do to down sizing and the Axe guy was upfront with all of us.  He basically said your jobs are gone, this plant is closing.  We were given the option of quiting right then or staying around to close for double the pay.  I left immediately and started a new job the next day.

On my first day at my new job, I watched 24 people get let go and thought, here we go again.  I worked there for 4 years until my department was shutdown.  I never saw it coming but I should have.  My wife was 8 months pregnant and I was now faced with no job and no insurance.  But there was light at the end of the tunnel, I have been at my current job for 6 years and things seem pretty steady.

In your case, it sounds like you're dealing with people and not production so I hope they look at each case as though you are an individual and not a number.  Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Stay the course Dom.

After our talk, I am positive you are using a proper combination of heart and mind to make your decisions BUT...... you can't control everything.

Stay the course.

If you see those guys, RUN.

maybe its just change Muddy. Change is always tough. Like someone said they will often just get the coach not the whole team. As you ove the job and want to keep it maybe arm yourself with a re-buttel should the Axer come knocking. EX " I've accomplished this" or my " performance reviews were ***. Be ready if needed to offer ideas on how to make things better. Bosses love people who offer solutions and not just complaints. Avoid dwelling on the $ aspect as bosses don't like that subject most of the time. If the system is broke their very politely offer ideas on how to make things better. maybe have a copy of the article about you from the paper it shows the Muddy passion. if you do it right just stating the facts none of this would be construed as sucking up just outplaying / out-smarting  the other team.

To prepare for the worst maybe re-new your contacts with people who might hire you or refer you should you leave. I wouldn't put your name in the "for hire " pool officially as you don't want to give the boss and reasons. Just start working the crowd with your magic in the Muddy fashion as you work the crowd on this sight.

Good luck my friend our prayers are with you.

Well, my friend, if things there don't work out then decide FIRST, where you really want to live. In your field there is no shortage of "clients" around the country.

X2-  On my last teaching job, I was asked to resign, not because of job performance, but because of politics.   At the onset, I was reeling, wondering why God had moved us three hours and I had only taught there for a year.  Very shortly, I had the opportunity to move to the school I'm now at and become a part of a ministry part-time (while living in the same town).  I've been here for 7 years and couldn't be happier.  God has a plan, Dom!  Perhaps it's to use you in a new location (maybe even Fla, Ga, Tx, etc. :) )  Hang in there and keep on keepin' on!!!
