Is there a name for this?

Featured Replies

Do any of you forum savvy gents know what it's called when someone does this?

A member asks a question. Another member answers his question. Immediatly after that post, or a few posts later, another member gives the same answer for the same question. Essentially, that guy just repeats what the other guy already said. It would seem that there has to be some sort of pop-culture name for this. I'd like to provide an example but I don't want to dime anyone out.

Ditto.

hmm.... On most of the gamer forums I belong to instead of giving the same answer we quote the text and type QFT (Quoted for truth) That was you do not steal any fame from the person that answerd the question but you are backing up what the other person stated making there advice seem more reliable.

QFT...

I like that.

We'll have to check with Long Mike to see if that's on the "Approved List". ::)

I see the X2 and X3 used on this forum all the time to repeat someone else's information.  Sometimes, I'll just state that I agree with the original poster.  If someone repeats someone else's advice, it is usually because they didn't read the thread thoroughly which is an honest mistake.

Actually I have done this unintentionally a few times - I access the forum at work and after I read a question I may start posting an reply only to be distracted and when I finally do get the reply finished and posted, I discover that another great mind was posting the same thing.  Don't be too quick to judge - if somebody is doing something you consider unnecessary, just let it roll - how does it harm you?

I always figured some were lazy and didn't read the responses and some were backing up what the other said.

It's new so I doubt he'll like it- but since it's not purely a lazy shortcut I'm guessing he might let it slide by.   ;D

Is there a written rule that says you must read everybodies reply?

Some guys make more jokes than adding constructive remarks anyway.

Or as the original poster of this thread used "dime" out.

What and where did that one originate?    Why read or reply to lingo that makes no sense or only to a few.

MAttfly, I'm not sure that I understand what your asking? Could you clarify what it is you want to know please?

It's annoying, yes, but most times I think it's unintentional. Redundancy also offers more weight to a statement--the more people that agree with an answer, the more valid it seems to the questioner.

co signed, or copycat or poser..

Haha get it? I copied the first three.  I don't think it happens on purpose most of the time though. It fits a certain mold of questioning. Good thing there aren't to many opinions around here. :)

It sems as though some people are taking offense to some of the responses on here. Just to clarify. The only question I asked was if there was a name for it.

I agree that it's probably an honest mistake. I also agree that it's the electronic equivelant of not listening to a conversation and just waiting for your turn to talk. It does validate what a person has to say, it also shows that some people just can't not have the answer.

I agree with Shad_Master.  I'm such a slow typist that, by the time I've posted a response, others have often beat me to it.

As for those of you waiting for my response to the new acronym, GPUR (go pizz up a rope)

I slip in the jokes ::)

When you don't,  I'm disappointed.  Thank you for your service.

verbatimer..............wait has someone already said that :D.

I do it on ocassion.  Just the other day I read a post of Long Mike's where he was asking a question and by the time I had answered Fourbizz had said the exact same thing.

I dont see how this could be at all annoying or a problem? If someone happens to read the question and post without reading other comments and it happens to be something someone has already covered is it hurting anybody? Im guilty of it for that reason, not reading the comments and posting almost exactly what someone else had said. Hearing the same thing from more than one person isnt necessarily a bad thing.
