Spinnerbait Question

Featured Replies

I have been trying to learn a little more about spinnerbaits before i just sorta fished them without much confidence but now that i have been fishing them a little bit more i like them. But my question is can you still throw a spinnerbait on a day that isnt cloudy and windy and still have success or is it wise to fish these on the cloudy/windy over cast days. I mean i wouldnt imagine that a bluebird sky day would be a good day to be chunkin a spinnerbait. Can anyone give me any pointers.

Pay real close attention to this one because it will send you on your way to bass fishing success.

It aint some much what you fish but where you fish it  ;)

In my opinion there is no bad time to fish a spinnerbait. I admit, overcast, breezy days are best, but I catch alot of fish on clear, calm days with a spinnerbait.

on a clearer day if the water is not really stained do you guys throw a chartruesse color or more of a white shad color?

I'd go with a natural colour in that situation.

Lake St. Clair is a very clear lake, so I usually throw white with chrome blades.

You got that right....

I always went by "90% of the fish are in 10% of the lake."  :)

You never know what will turn the fish on. Sometimes thinking out of the box and going against the grain will load the boat for you. Let the fish tell you what they want and the only way to know is to try.

I'm by no means a Bass Fishing expert, however, I do know a few things about spinnerbaits. Spinners are my bread and butter baits. I fish them in any condition. On clear water and sunny days, I'll use a Spinner with silver willow leaf blades and a clear mettalic skirt. On cloudy days in clear water I'll use a white spinner with white painted willow leaf blades. In stained I'll continue using the white spinner. In muddy water, I'll switch to a colorado blade (gold in color) and a chartruse or blaze orange skirt. These selections has always worked for me and I caught my bigggest bass ever on a white spinner while fishing on a clear lake on a calm, cloudy day. By no means am I saying that this is the only way to go about using spinners, again, this is what has worked for me. I got to give credit to Kevin Van Dam's DVD titled Spinner Bait Techniques that I purchased from BPS, that's what gave me my knowledge on the subject. Hope this helps in some form or fashion.

Spinnerbaits are my "go to" lures.  Been fishing them for several decades.

Here are my tips:

KVD's spinnerbait video was the most helpful and valuable show/video that I have ever watched about bass fishing

X2 Right On!

where is this video

If you are refering to the Kevin Van Dam video, I purchased it from Bass Pro Shops. I got it and 2 other DVDs by Kevin Van Dam (Pitching to Heavy Hitters and also Stratagies for Changing Conditions). I got all 3 DVD's for around $10.00. If you buy each one individually the cost $10.00 each. All 3 videos are great with ALLOT of valueable info. I've learned sooooo much from each of them that it isn't even funny! Definately one of the best investments I've made! If you're not near a BPS, you should be able to order it online.
