I received a call today from AMEX fraud, someone had purchased $2800 worth of tickets to Italy on my card. Seems they will get quite a surprise when they arrive at the airport.  

They didnt even buy 1st Class! Losers.... :

Robert - Any idea how they got your info ? Amex is one of the more secure cards out there. Good to see them looking out for you.

Hey Check out what they did here at a huge gas station. You know where you put your card into the pump, to swipe it? They clipped on an attachment to it, that read your info when you put the card in, these guys wiped out a lot of debit cards, before they figured it out!

I've heard of that before - that's why I only use ATM'S at my bank or a major store. A lot of people don't know that ATM'S are like candy vending machines - anyone can own one and your bank can't gaurantee you against having your info swiped from a "gypsy" machine. Beware.

The device goes over the original card swiper and looks just like a real card swiper itself.

I'm told..............they only transmit short distances so the crumbs are usually close by.

Muddy, I got the solar charger so when you swing by Newport to get me we can lose some of the lead and just pray for good weather.  I really was looking forward to flying the Concorde again... :-/

Earlier this year, I got a call while I was at home in IL asking me if I just ate dinner in Mexico!  That would've been a bit difficult to actually do.

End result - new credit cards on their way.

The fraud investigation team about ruined my surprise to my wife about getting engaged though.  They called while I was with her verifying the charge and it was quite difficult to verify with her sitting right there and not reveal the nature of the call.

A few years ago I had a similar experience with Bank of America.

My ATM card was diabled and I could not withdraw cash. When I got them on the phone I was told the bank had detected unusual activity and suspended the card. Too cool! The cardholder number was apparently stolen by a retail employee in the "normal course of business". Random, relatively small purchases were made within a thirty minute period, around the world! Before the card was suspended, the perps had spent about $2800. Our cost, -0-.
