Geez, Bruce Springsteen?

Man, this choice is worst than the guy formerly know as Prince.

Why not someone at the top of their game? I never liked Springsteen,

but that's not the point. He's just old news...

Like Carrie Underwood? Then I might watch half time show instead of changing the channel.

Bruce's first 3 Albums and original line up was an unbelievable experience to see. They were great as were their shows. Then he met Landau right after the AUG 75 10 nite stand at the Bottom Line, I saw most of them, his greatest performance. Once Landau took the reigns and Vinny Mad Dog Lopez ( replaced by Weinberg) and Sancious left the band they went to 1,2,3 4 rock songs and started writing for formula, his quality of music went down . The 2 exceptions were Atlantic City and the Ghost of Tom Joad, his acoustic work

Bruce does a lot of charity work in depressed cities and with striking unions. He is a major contributor to food banks in the North East, and this is why he has been chosen, he really does a lot of good work in the North East especially in New Jersey,New York and Philly, and is very much respected for it

by the Way Prince is an excellent writer and musician. He introduced a whole generation to soul and funk and told serious stories on stage as to where the music ame from. A lot of younger music fans were first introduced to Curtis Mayfield,James Brown, the Neville brothers, Sly and Hendrix through Prince, he never once took credit for a lick he took from his heros.

Like Carrie Underwood?

Either her, Jennifer Nettles or both!

;D ;D ;D ;D

p.s.

You don't need any fingers to count all of Sprinsteen's #1 hits!

The Boss is a boring choice.

I however felt that Prince was the best performance I've seen at the Big Game in years. He brought the energy and he's just a downright nasty guitarist.

Hi,.... my name is SuskyDude...........and I'm a Prince fan. :D

Proifessor Long Hair , Muddy Waters , Dr Johnand the Neville Brothers all never had number one hits and they are some of the most respected musicians, especially by other musicians.

Madonna had several #1 hits and can't sing for Marketing and talent do not go hand in hand

Not to mention Miles Davis,Geezzz gimme a break :-?

Well, I was just trying to make the point that even in his heyday,

he wasn't really the superstar his ardent fans make him out to be.

On the other hand, both Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Nettles

are superstars and most importantly, fresh not stale.

I am not gonna do the homework on this one but I can tell you that at least vs Underwood, if you go by sales and concert revenue, Springsteen blows her in the dust. He has been playing sold out venues since the shows in the Stone Pony in the =early 70's graduating to venues like the Agora Ballroom and Bottom Line dates to full size Stadiums that's over 30 years of sold out shows, hardly a cult following. It depends on where you live and what the radio is playing.

I listen to WWOZ from New Orleans and they play at least a dozen tunes by Dr.John a day, here and in NY ZIPPO!, doesn't mean he is not still in the mix.

Heres an interesting fact in a depressed live show market:

Top 10 highest-grossing tour of 2008 in North America:

Madonna - $105 million

Celine Dion - $94 million

Eagles - $73.4 million

Kenny Chesney - $72.2 million

Bon Jovi - $70.4 million

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - $69.3 million

Neil Diamond - $59.8 million

Rascal Flatts - $55.8 million

The Police - $48 million

Tina Turner - $47.7 million

While Underwood boasted the 5th largest Grossing country tour of 2008, she was 24th overall with gr0ss recipts of 22 million

this info comes from BillBoard, who keep track of such industry stats

Sounds like a entertaining concert for the older people.  After taking out two of them  Dont like any of those.

I'd like to see, George Strait or Hank!  Kid Rock would be another good one.

The Boss is has clearly seen better days, but mentioning him and Carrie Underwood in the same sentence is a joke.  No disrespect to Underwood, but she ain't in the same league.

have you seen her?  Plus how could she be, she hasnt been around for 30 yrs.

IMO  using Carrie would appeal to the younger crowd and most older folks too.  Springstin would mostly appeal to people 40-50+.  This right here is why I dont watch 1/2 time shows.  The choices are never good imo.

I liked Sprinstein back in the day.  Would I want to see him now?  No.

Carrie Underwood doesn't do it for me, sorry.  Her songs use the same 4 notes over and over.  To me, she sounds almost like she's yelling.  It's as if she's trying to keep her voice from cracking.

I mean, I don't hate her. Don't get me wrong.  But she's just not creative and energetic enough for me.  And she certainly isn't a legend like Bruce.

Personally, I'd like to see Kid Rock at the Superbowl.  He's latest music is great.  Doubtful we'll ever see it though.

I wouldn't go to any of the shows on that list! Just pointing out how the business is these days and how much sales doesn't equal talent!   Comp[aring Underwoods commercial sucess to Sprinsteens is like comparing Ted Williams to Len Sakta ( lifetime ba .167) both MLB playes but not on the same level

Thanks , my life is complete now!

Hey she has a good voice, not my style! She has more singing chops in a yawn then Madonna has show her whole carrer!

Springsteen sucks. My friend went to a concert and he said it was the worst thing he's ever done. He said it was loaded with 40-50 year olds still trying to be "cool"

Here's something that might shock you; In my eyes musically the best talent on that list is Rascal Flats, I have heard some of their work, impeccable guitar work. 8-)

I absolutely agree.  What a pathetic, pitiful choice.  We've had, in my opinion, the worst bands for the past 3 years.  The Rolling Stones?  Past their day.  Prince?  Psht.  and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?  Please.

Give Charlie Daniels a shot.  8-)

  • Super User

They don't come any more drunk, untalented and old news than Charlie Daniels! Unless you are judging them by political stance rather than talent.

Why not Wynton Marsallis, Stevie Wonder or Dr.John for that matter. These are some of the most musically respected musicians in the world today!

Past their day>> They are still playing. Music is just not  whats  hot now :a career has a beginning , a middle and an end. Maybe BBKING should just go to an old age home?

Wynton Marsalis would be awesome, but it ain't gonna happen - just not a wide enough appeal.

And they are gonna stick with tried and true oldies after the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson debacle.

I think Hank III would put on a great show.

I don't know maybe a tag match between the Spice Girls and the girl thingy Cat Girls, a little " wardrobe mishap" and  might be somewhat worth a view

arguh!11 The filter got it :-/

I agree. It's the Super Bowl for crying out loud. Book an act that's on par with the event's hype. Even though I don't like Kid Rock, he'd be a nice injection of life to the stale halftime show.
