That is how you do it though.

Luckily I have yet to bury a hook in myself past the barb.  I have had many good jabs but not that deep.

I cringed when he made the first 2 pulls that didn't work.  You have to give a quick, firm pull on the FIRST try.  A cold beer before and after the extraction is also highly recommended.

That is the way to do it, but I prefer a nice shot of Jack Daniels, fore and aft surgery!!!

Yea that's how you do it. A guy named Glenn Cumings once did a demonstration on how to do that.

There was this other video that made the front page on Break. A guy had a fishing hook buried into him and the captain of the boat did a fine job removing the hook using that technique. Then all the ignorant people came and would flame saying that is wrong and the right way is to pull the hook through the skin cut the barb off then you can just take it out. Well whats better 2 holes in your hand or just one? I can't believe people think that is how you get a hook removed. Reckon some people were even saying the way you rip the hook out in the technique posted by the OP is more dangerous too!  ;D

If we were on shore or on vacation, I might do it differently...

but in my case, the beer is for the mental relaxation... which is far more effective (for me) than alcohol as a pain killer. Besides, if I drink enough to kill the pain- I shouldn't be operating a boat.

I have heard of this method quite a few times before but seeing it done just made me cringe.

I got a Zara Spook stuck in my finger once and I grabbed it and popped the hook back out.  It was a total reflex.

It made a loud popping sound like when you use pliers to get a hook out of a fish.  

It made my buddy a little nauseous.   ;D

LOL... I got the hook from a Spook caught in the meaty part of my palm, just below the thumb. Cut the treble off the lure, cut the other two hooks off, put some ice on it for awhile to get it numb and a buddy used this technique. Worked like a charm.

Yalllllllllll gotta try what i did 25 yrs ago firetiger bomber with 3 lb bass atttached thrashing i was young and lipped him yep that treble went just enough out my fingernail to the barb i tried for 3 hrs to cut it myself finally emergency room i never did that again

I have to admit I'm a wimp when it comes to extracting hooks. I'm headed to the emergency room for some local anesthetic before any yanking occurs and I won't be watching either, LOL

I had a crankbait come flying back at me about 200 MPH and buried a hook in my groin .... bout 2 inches from ... well you know !

I cut the hook off ... grabbed it with pliers and shoved it on thru ... the bite was good so I went back to fishin !!!

Word to the wise on this one!

I had a hook imbedded in my right index finger about 3 years ago.  I decided to use this method to remove the hook.  When my cousin made the tug on the line and as the hook was on the way out the bard decided to grab the tendon in my finger!  It actually pulled the tendon to the surface of the skin!  Talk about some pain!  I ended up at the hospital with reconstructive surgery on the finger and about 3 weeks off work from it.  If I ever meet any of you I'll be happy to show you the nice scar it left on my finger.

This is very unusual to happen but just be advised that it CAN happen!  

I tried that method , but it didn't do a dern bit of good . Kinda sucks when you have a hook buried in the bone . Come to think about it that d**n fish cost me $500.00 for the E.R. visit

I buried a treble in my thumb last year and went to emergency.  A friend cut the hook but he snippped it very short.  The doctor said I should have left the entire lure on. Took him what seemed like about 6-7  minutes to make the incision and remove the hook.  cost me $1140.

I had a hook in my lip from a friend casting behind him 20 years ago.  My buddy's dad cut the hook and pulled it out point first.  I can still feel him threading it through to this day.  The hook also had worm guts on it.

I thought the duy in that video was gonna get the other hook in him too as he pulled it out.

I'm not gonna lie that looked like a bad idea. One time I had reeled in my rapala husky jerk and was in this little jon boat and had my rod tip up high but my lure was near my friends head and he didnt realize it and he heard the rattles and he thought it was a bee. So he went to smack it against his head and thought it was stinging him so kept smacking it over and over and I had to yell at him to stop. Eventually he dug 2 of the hooks past the barb in his head. It was probably the funniest thing in the world but I know it had to hurt.  ;D  But he said his dad like cut a little bit of skin in his head to get it out. Sounded painful.  

Anyways heres a pic the long blue string was from his sun glasses that the lure caught and was hanging off of him and the little blue thing beside it is the lure. hahaha
