Hey Fellas; My daughter called me from Rome yesterday. She is studying in Florence this year. She is tracing my footsteps around Italy some 32 years after I had the same experience. I spent the better part of a year THERE , I WAS NOT STUDYING, JUST VISITING.  It is a wonderful thing when your kid follows up on some of your positive experiences and you can share that joy and excitement. She called not far from the Spanish Steps, where one of the greatest poets of Western Literature,KEATS, died. She was then heading for the Trevi Fountain.

I can't wait for her to get to Naples and Sicily in the spring to meet some of our relatives!

Rome is one of the places I hope to visit one day before I die.  You are lucky to have been there.

Yesterday I went to Vatican City, hung out with the Pope, we're homies now. The most amazing moment was when I walked into the Sistine Chapel and lost my breath. The only thing I could think the whole time was This is what I've been waiting my whole life forThis is why I'm here I have dreamed of seeing the Sistine Chapel ever since 10th grade AP World History which was the only Art History-sort of class I ever took

Every once in a while one of your kids can do something that simply brings you to you knees.  The love and pride that you feel is almost overwhelming.  Been there.  Done that.  Cried like a baby.

Personally, if I ever have kids, I'll kill them if they ever follow in my footsteps.  I would much prefer they follow in their Aunt/Uncle's footsteps.

I'm with you there.  Some of my footsteps went areas I NEVER want my daughter going.  Hopefully her's will follow straighter and narrower path than mine.  Now if she ends up where I am, that would be just fine with me.

Thanks; She is something else. She was crying the other day on the phone because they showed the demolition of Shea Stadium on Rome TV , she grew up in that park, 21 years ago she was born on OPENING DAY  8-)
