UK talks with Calipari intensifying

Featured Replies

This would be a home run for us. Calipari, if the deal goes through, would immediately bring us back to the level Kentucky is accustomed to.

God, please let this happen.

...and he would get 24,000 assistant coaches at every home game to dissect his every move! I would not want anything to do with that pressure cooker. Winning a national championship wasn't enough to help Tubby keep his job, here's hoping Calipari fairs better.

By the way, Memphis fans are attacking Cal for losing to Missouri in the sweet 16. I'm sure Kentucky fans would be much more understanding. They seem like a pretty easy going, tolerant fanbase. :D

Hmmmm... has a strong program at Memphis, has great recruiting power, in conference USA where his team is almost guaranteed a trip to the big dance every year if he keeps up his great recruiting. Sooo what would I pick ::)

That's what you loons said two years ago when you hired the great savior Clyde H. Christ.

Scary combo

Have you heard the dollar figure? I've heard some ridiculously large numbers....as in the highest paid coach in college athletics money

I think all of us in the Lexington area can testify to the almost violent fights occurring over the coach debate ha

I think it would be a great hire, but remember how excited you were when they hired Gillespie.  I remember a certain avatar.  I thought he would be great too.  You might need to temper your expectations.

I read something in the paper to the effect of, don't quote me on actual numbers, that Rupp(sp) won 5 titles in his 30 years and KY has won 3 in the 20 since him, and one of them came from the guy you fired.

Correct.  One for Joe Hall, one for Pitino, ad one for Smith.

Let's see...

Salary triples, endorsements go through the roof, coaches at a "real"

college, plays in a conference with competative teams, and escapes

the sewer we call Memphis. Man, that's a tough decision...

Home run vs hit by a pitch? I wouldn't even pack a bag, I'd already

be in Kentucky shopping for a toothbrush!

:D

His salary is going through the roof with either school so you can throw that out the window. Apparently FedEx is ponying up to try and keep Cal there.   Now its a matter of if he wants to play in a tougher conference, or not worry about income tax.

I believe that in a meeting with his current players, Cal was quoted as saying KY was the Notre Dame of college basketball.

WE GOT HIM!!!!

It is now over for the rest of the SEC. Actually, it is now over for the rest of the country.

All smack talk aside, Kentucky being good again is good for all of college basketball.

Hey RW, the people in Memphis can't blame him, can they? I mean, you really can't compare the two programs. I thought he showed a lot of class and the fact that he took so long to make his decision showed that he was attached to the area.

How about Anthony Grant hiring at Alabama? I hope this man really get our basketball program rolling.

Heck no! This is a HUGE career enhancement for Coach Cal.

I wish him the very best. The icing on the cake is blue can

still be his favorite color!

Wonder how his restaurant in Memphis will fare now?  Also, how about a roadtrip also centered around Memphis in May.  Mmmmmmm. :)
