Did anybody catch his interview with Bob Costas last night ?

He said his steroid use was not responsible for his breaking Roger Maris's home run record.

He's either very delusional or thinks the rest of the world is very stupid. How sad.

I like how everyone on the sports shows this morning was making a big deal about him "coming clean," as if there was any doubt he used PEDs.

If you know anything about St Louis Cardinals baseball, this was a big deal......  though not that anyone in this town thought for a moment he wasn't using them.

As the new hitting coach it was imperative he come clean on this for no reason other than to avoid his presence becoming a media circus and becoming a negative to the team.  He HAD to come clean. 

Honestly, what difference does it make whether he was using performance enhancement drugs or a corked bat?  He was still cheating.  Baseballs records have been eternally marred by this mess.

OMG   I never would have guesses.  I was under the impression that a 6'4 265lb Rhino that plays 162 games could stay that big naturally with all the travelling.  Huh?   Very surprising :-? :-?

I don't know why his coming out is a big deal.  I mean who didn't think Mark was using steroids?  It's too bad the top two (maybe more) home run records are tainted.

i wish they all would take steroids. I want to see 100+ home runs in a season and 100+ mph fastballs from guys in there 40's. Maybe Vince McMahon can get a XLB league going.

cart i was listening to sid rosenberg on the am radio today and that is exactly what he said. he also mentioned that tony larussa was probably the one who made him bring it out now instead of 3 months down the road during spring training. tony larussa is a baseball freak who will not tolerate ANY distractions during spring ball. good call cart.

1) There's been cheating in baseball since there was baseball.

2) McGuire is one of many tools in the shed. I have ZERO respect for his kind, of which there are many, who hide behind publicists, agents, attorneys, etc. when they get caught. Just once I'd like to see someone look the camera straight in the eye and say "Yeah, I ****ed up. It is what it is". But nooooo, time after time we get scripted, contrived reactions, complete with crocodile tears. Yea, ok, I'm believing that .

I darn near cried when he broke the HR record. Though his days were before my time, Roger Maris was my favorite player as a kid.

I have a 63' Topps Maris my father's buddy gave me for organizing all his cards from his youth. My God...this guys had trips on everything!!! The sad thing is the guy is a coke-head, and I guarantee once he found out the value of his cards, they went right up his nose...had I know that as a kid, I would have snagged a few cards.

What ticks me off most about Mac is one of his responses. He said something along the lines of 'I wish I was not playing during the steroid era, but rather a different time.' WHAT???

He really attempts to displace the blame here; it's as if he couldn't help taking the steroids, like someone was forcing him. F U mac.

Come on guys. He has only been lying for 10 years or so....I mean, I am sure he is trustworthy now. No way those performance enhancing drugs actually enhanced his performance. He said they didn't besides him hiding it for 10 years why would we not believe him.

IMO, there are spur of the moment, passionate mistakes/lapses in judgement folks make which I can see past. A decade of being untruthful, well I am going to need a little more than "I am really really sorry, won't happen again, I am all better now, grew some integrity out back and had it installed so trust me as a coach/leader."

They should wipe the books for him and any of these other schmoes, make it like they never existed in the sport. Maybe after that, kids will see what cheating gets you.

This was a monumental boneheaded move by Larussa that was only compounded by the brass with the Cardinals.  Did they not see this train wreck coming? 

This is not going over well in St Louis at all.  The Mcguire section of I-70 is probably going to cease to exist (it should've happened after that congressional hearing)

My wife is a major Cardinal fan.

She is massively wizzed at this deal.   

Sure is nice to have a target to shoot at, eh? How many of your favourite players played on juice? and you just don't know it yet?

It is what it is...cheating...but it's really too bad that some players will go to their graves without anyone knowing that they were juiced and the public will continue to idolize them and demonize the outed guys.
