McDonalds an Olympic sponsor? a little ironic, don't ya think

Featured Replies

I know McDonald's does a lot of good charitable things but come on. The most fit, top athletes on the planet are sponsored by the fattiest food you could possible eat? I just think the IOC needs to re-evaluate who their sponsors are , and maybe make a change for the next Olympics. It's like telling little kids eat fast food and you'll be an Olympic athlete someday ! just ironic, I think

I thought the same thing when I saw the commercial showing "athletes" sitting around eating McNuggets.

Me?  Yeah, I like some McNuggets from time to time...

An Olympic caliber athlete?    ::)  Maybe Michael Phelps and his 10,000 calorie diet.

Luke, you could always contribute the amount of money that McDonalds does or even more and tell the IOC to not allow McDonalds to advertize or contribute.

Yes, money talks

If you think the athletes are eating off the standard menu, you are mistaken.

I was hearing on the radio the Olympic committee has already passed out over 100k condoms directly to Olympic athletes. They've also been interviewing some of the more popular cat houses around the area and supposedly they can't keep enough girls on tap.

Why not toss in a Big Mac, some nuggets, and a small fry?

Yes it does !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free condoms AND mcdonalds?!?!?!?!

Finally! My training to become an olympic curling athelte has paid off!!!!!

Usain Bolt ate their chicken nuggets twice before his gold meddle run.  Said that he didn't trust the Chinese food so he decided to eat something he knew wouldn't make him sick.   :D

By the way I got that from an interview on the BBC show Top Gear.

What a coincidence. I run like an Olympian after eating McDonalds. All the way to the bathroom... ;)

Who is sitting there watching the Olympics on TV? People who sit in front of TVs... what is the food that couch potatoes like? fast food aka McDonalds... so they are going after their target audience.

the rest of the people that actually get exercise is probably out doing something better than sitting there watching the Olympics lol

McDonald's has been a Olympic sponsor for a very long time. During the last summer Olympics before Usain Bolt broke the record he ate chicken nuggets because he thought it would be the most reliable food without causing any problems. Now the Olympics/ McDonalds hire executive chefs which cater to the needs of the athletes. They are on call and cook whatever they want or need.

I know this because I used to practice at the U.S. Olympic facility on Colorado.

I wasn't an athlete that needed special food, but it was nice to have :)

I think the association they are trying to convey is that McDonald's is a proud sponsor to support the United States Olympic Team, so think of McDonald's as a patriotic symbol backing the U.S.  in a sense.

And it is about who has more money to offer.

I thought the same thing when I saw the logo on a cup.

Then again, it probably explains why I am sitting around drinking a large sweet tea and not in the Olympics.

I'll bet more than a few of our athletes wouldn't be able to go without McD's help.

I've read that Chad Ochocinco eats McDonald's like 3 times a day.

You can eat any of that junk as long as you stay in shape/active.
