Well, lets see my son stole my  pain pills (50) of them, and my wife's credit card.  I of course showed him the door, now I'm ostercised from the family.  My wife almost left me, then my 5 year old's golden retriever was poisoned, ended up dying today.  I go to bury the poor beast and my truck sinks up to it's axles!  So there I am with a dead dog in the back, and stuck in the mud.  I dig the grave and hit shale, so I end up mixing cement so the coyotes won't dig it up.  Try to use a come-along to pull the truck out, end up pulling up the fence posts.  End up jacking up the truck and putting gravel under all the wheels.  All of this 5 weeks post op from a neck fusion.  Now I'm hurting like mad, have a dead dog, my little boy is a wreck and misses his dog, my wife is still mad, my inlaws aren't speaking to me, and my step-son is an addict.  I need a fishing trip.

1. Good on you. My wife's stepbrother robbed her room several times while she was in college,and then stole a bunch of stuff from her dad and his mom's house, and his mom's car.  Twice.  He's in jail now.  Sometime's tough love is the best thing you can do.  The family will eventually come around.

2. Very sorry to hear about the dog.  I bet you know what the best thing for a lost dog is: a new puppy.    I can wholeheartedly attest to that.

3. You can replace the pills and the pain'll gradually go away.

What really matters is that you stepped in and stepped up and took care of you and your family.  You're doing it right and good on you for that.  Good luck and keep your chin up.

I don't believe in caving in so that is out. Perhaps though for the best outcome you could make an offer:

  He can come back with certain goals.

1) apologizes to the family

2) agrees to get tested ea month or something,

3) enters re-hab and sticks with it

4) any violation and he is immediately kicked back out

Get buy in from the wife and make sure the people who need to know the plan.

5) etc

  The time is ripe as it just happened and it appears to be the first offense.

Your quick action might have stunned him. This might be your one and only shot to catch it early.

Da*n man, that's just about the worst week I have ever heard of.

1. Get a new puppy.

2. Take the wife out to dinner.

3. Leave the child in jail. (Tough love)

4. Get a taller truck.

5. Carry the police report to your doctor and they will issue a new script(Don't ask me how I know that).

6. Get your A** on a plane. I'll pick you up at the airport with the boat in tow. As many days on the lake as it takes to help.

If it was my biological son or stepson his @$$ would be in jail. He needs to be taught a lesson now before he ODs or gets killed.  Sorry about you losing your best friend.  Get the young son a new puppy.

The police report is the reason I was ostercised, I needed it to get my pills re-issued.  He didn't sell them he shot them up, don't ask me how I know.  He knows from experience that one I will not bail him out of jail, and two if he takes a swing at me I will put him on the ground.  I may be disabled and can hardly get around, but I will still take care of business if you are a threat to my family.  He is 22 and time he  becomes a man if that will ever happen.  I was in the Coast Guard and then a prison guard and I am fully aware of what an addict is capable of.  He is out and will be until he is clean for a year, and apologizes. I doubt he will ever be back.
