Sad Day For The Big XII

I read where Texas got it's TV deal & is staying put.

Great, they have decided not to play a championship game? What are they gonna call themselves until they add on?

Maybe Texas and the nine dwarfs. Maybe not, I don't think they can even win it this year. Oklahoma will be the team to beat.

Wonder if any of the remaining are considering the C-USA conference? I bet that's a big check.

SEC rules!

Just picture the Big XII logo with all XII team logos on it with two bandaids across Neb and Colorado.

  9 dwarfs, I like it ;D

To say that Arkansas and LSU wouldn't be a possibility isn't a stretch either if money truly does drive the bus.

If money drives the bus, theres no way you get either Arkansas or LSU.  A better chance of getting Arkansas because of their old SWAC ties, but the Big 12 will never generate more money than the SEC, especially the way they divide it up.

Nope, there will be no championship game at season's end.

Ya'll see the numbers on TV contracts and the Big Ten is #1 and SEC#2, yet, get this, The Big XII still out earned most conferences.

AS per Forbes, the big revenue winners all have stadiums with 80-100,000 seating capacity.

Texas grossed more than any college the past 3 years.   and we have 4 other colleges with earnings of 80+ mil a year not counting NU.    Even KU is earning 80+ mil.,  basketball is alive and well in the Big XII.

Yep OU, OSU, Tech, are above 80+ mil.

aTm isn't doing to bad either.     The rest of that list is made up of Big Ten, SEC and I think it was USC

Okie state had OU's number 2 out of 3 years prior to Les Miles leaving for LSU, they are just a good coach away from being a threat.

Tuberville might be able to add some defense to Tech's explosive offense.

aTm's talent has improved the past few seasons.

KSU has Bill Synder back as head coach, and he made big impacts finding Juco talent that made KSU contenders during his era.

  We'll compete just fine.

Every conference has its patsies.  In the SEC, the earnings very greatly from one college to the next, so not all is split equal as one is lead to believe.

Vandy has one winning season in 25 years.

Ole Miss won nine games twice since Eli Manning left, but still didn't challenge for the East crown.

Miss St beats Florida once every ten years, kinda like Tech beating OU once every ten years.  Whats it been 13 years since State was a contender?

Kentucky, not basketball, my mistake.

Arkansas, once in a blue moon, they might be good this year.

South Carolina, even with two hall of fame coaches, Spurrier and Holtz, SC  won 9 games one time.

Tenn won the NC after Manning left, and that was in 98 I think, could be wrong, but anyway, what have they done since then?   Fired that coach.  Can't be all good in Tenn.

SEC pays its patsies well, they earn it every year.   All conferences pay someone in their conference to be their patsies.

SEC has had a great decade, no denying that.

But...... then again, most of the experts pronounced the Big XII dead, and how did that work out ?  ;)

The jury was quick to deliver a death sentence as well.

Again, how did that turn out?

     ;)

Ole Miss will never win the East. They don't play in it.

Also bringing up UT (you know the original in Knoxville) ;)

They should have been in the 01 title game had they not choked in the SEC Championship game against LSU in the second half.   They surely would have given Miami a lot better game than that crappy team the Big 12 sent out there that couldn't even win the conference either.  Also was a pick 6 away from keeping LSU from winning the NT 3 seasons ago by turning the tables on them in the SECC game.

My favorite Big XII/ SEC game was the 1998,

Orange Bowl. Nebraska (#2) vs Peyton Manning

and the Vols (#3). That was a whoopin'!

;D ;D ;D

Those who can play the game.  Those who can't sit on their butts, puff out their chests, and brag about how their favorite team or conference is better than all the others.  Though no one asked for my recommendation, I say enjoy the games but don't live your life vicariously through your favorite sports team.   ;)

Roadwarrior, as you know by now the Big 12 still exists.

But the question begs will they go back to 12 teams?

Probably not as Texas does not want a championship playoff game.

Missouri and Baylor are not happy members.

Kansas and K-State don't seem to have much love for Texas, either.

And Texas A&M finally showed why their students wear jockstraps as they had the balls to tell Texas that the Aggies were going to do their own thing and not follow Texas to the Pac-10.

Not a happy conference with trust and ethics not being at the highest level.

Story is not over.  Give it to next year and see what happens.  :)

Sam,

I go back where the "state teams" were about

players from the state. As a Missouri grad, maybe

bragging on Nebraska seems silly. However,

the majority of their team is from the state.

Not coincidently, The University of Nebraska

has one of the highest graduation rates for

"student athletes" in the nation.

8-)

Kent,

You need to come up this year and watch the last NU/MU conference game.  It's going to be good.  Ed you come too, I still have a debt to settle.

GO BIG RED!!

Sam, I disagree that Baylor is not happy. In fact, they are ecstatic. The only other choice they would have had would have been a chance to enter C-USA.

I heard this morning on Mike and Mike that Arkansas may join the Big 12.  That would be an interesting move.

Later, :)

Hey Fish,

Texas was leaving Baylor out of the picture regarding the move to the PAC-10.

I hope Baylor continues its membership in the Big 12.

Great conservative school and Baylor is a definite enhancement to the conference.  :)

Sam,

How do you figure Texas left them out?     I guess you never heard thatUniv. of Cal.  didn't want Baylor cause they are Baptist, ie a religious college.

How come you only hear the Pac 10 talk about asking Utah and not BYU?

Why all the reports about the Texas legislature getting involved to have Colorado replaced with Baylor and keep the South six colleges together?

::)
