Still finding these at the north end of my house.  This is about the 12th one I've found this summer.  My wife nearly sat on one last wekend when she was refinishing a coffee table on the driveway and sat on a stack of wood planks left over from our recently installed privacy fence.  She sprayed the one she nearly sat on with Raid.  It sat out in the hot sun all day until I got home.  Looked dead to me.  I then put it in an envelope to take to work the next day and show some friends.  When I tore open the envelope and dumped it on my desk, it had recovered enough to crawl around.  The one in this picture I sprayed with Ortho, then later some Raid.  This evening it was still alive and kicking.  Hard to kill, these Black Widows.  It did not, however, survive my shoe.

I could walk naked covered in rat juice through a swamp filled with cottonmouths and not get the heeby-jeebys like I get with spiders.  I have no use for spiders.  Except those little hairy colorful jumping spiders, and those don't bother me.

If it won't cause an obvious problem, when I find widow webs, I wait for dark, then soak a small rag in a flammable solvent and burn them out.

I think they are under my siding at the north end of my house, where it stays cool.  This weekend, I lifted up several rows of siding and sprayed for them.

I'm with you on this one. I don't know why but spiders bring out the little girl side of me that other living things can't. Anytime I walk through a web, I look like someone with turrets.

I remember when I used to hunt.  I would go out after squirrels in October when it was still a bit warm.  Walking in the morning woods trying to be stealthy.  Then walking through one of those big webs that the spider always seems to make across a trail at face level.  With one of those big tan spiders in the center that are big enough to make a thump when it hits your face.  Believe me, I've freaked out in the woods more than once, stripping off clothes to get that spider off me.

I too am a little girl when it comes to spiders. Speaking of spiders my boss makes me clean a large empty building that used to have water pumped through it. What i clean is the spider webs that "COVER" this place.

So the other day the kid i work with and i got the idea of a blow torch and can of starting fluid. Worked good at first until we realized what it was doing. From the smoke when we lit the stuff on fire caused ALL the spiders on the ceiling to slid down on their webs. At one time we counted 27 spiders dangling in our faces in just one tiny area.

;D Man I hate that too. I can remember freaking out and flailing and screeching a few times when I got one of those buggers in my face like that. Around here in Florida you gotta really watch what out. Some of those that make their webs across the path are the size of golfballs.

Black widows are very very common around here.You have to watch grabbing or touching anything outside. They seem to build a web just about anywhere they can.

a few months ago I bought into a tropical plant wholesale business and one of our weekly semis deliver plants from Florida.  The plants are off loaded by hand and the greenhouse is real careful about plant inspections as there is always some sort of hitch hiker on board.  Normally it will be a snake or some sort of lizard, but on occasion it will be a black widow or two.  I don't mind the lizards but the other two.......

They claim we have Black Widows here in Pa. I haven't seen any yet, but if I do, I will be moving to Maine HA.

If you think those are bad, you should see some of the 'fishing' and wolf spiders that like to live near my favorite fishing spot. They dive in after minnows (and they can stay underwater for sometime). I saw one once that looked like a mouse with 8 legs. I'll take a snake any day over a spider...

Last time I was in Florida I was walking across an old wood bridge and I thought I saw a walking hand... No, it was a HUGE tan spider... I hate Florida now because of that!

For those of you that dont like spiders, don't go peacock bass fishing in Brazil.

You will possibly have to deal with these.

I can stand, no let me rephrase, tolerate snakes, but Spiders give me the evil eye every time.

spiders are kind little fellas, you just have to learn to tolerate them.  I go trailing all the time and run into the webs, but usually i just brush the web off because it feels like i got hair on me.  The spiders always jump off or fall off at some point

Wolf and Fishing Spiders will come after you if you get into their 'zone'. I have to inspect every inch of an area before I'll fish HAHA. Those fishing spiders will pop out of nowhere and chase me out of an area... yes, a 3 inch spider chases me away...

By me, we have a lot of water spiders that like to make A LOT of webs on my kayak. So everytime i wanna fish from the yak, i have to take a half=hour just getting all the freaking spiders off cuz they scare the hell outta me. Idc if they aren't poisonous.
