Found this patch on Ebay a few weeks back. Back in the early 80's Shakespeare Sigma was top of the line stuff! I'd go through that catalog every day, looking at all the cool Sigma gear.  Totally takes me back to when I was a kid.

Shakespeare for fresh water and Penn for saltwater.

And Sam is right.  Everyone that fished saltwater fished a Penn.  Penn Senator, Penn Jigmaster, Penn Squider, Penn Knucklebuster.

I still fish Penn.  Although most of them are Slammers now.  I've got a few conventional reels hiding somewhere in a box.

Hell, I've still got the Senator rod and reel sitting in the garage that I caught my first Marlin on.  Still works great to this day.

Southbend is still around, they now own my rod of choice, Hurricane Redbone.

I used to have a Shakespeare sonar unit in the 1970's

I still have an old Shakespeare 1980 President II baitcaster that's mounted on a Berkeley Roughneck rod. I used that rig for trolling Storm Big Mac plugs for stripers. The reel is built like a tank, and is just about as heavy. I still use it occasionally for flatheads, and it still works well.
