10.72 million dollar base pay equal to slavery.

Recommended Posts

See this amazes me players making 10.72 million a year to play football complaining about it being equivalent to slavery WTH!?

I'd be more than willing to make darn near 11 million a year to be a "slave" that plays a game.

Did you guys read/hear the entire interview to get the comments in context??? AP didn't say it's the same as pickin' cotton and living in a barn. He's a standup guy and deserves some benefit of the doubt on this one.

This is precisely why I gave up on professional stick and ball sports years ago. /quote]

So, how long did it take for the pros to recognize that you weren't worth a crap at those sports?   ;D

For 11 million a year I'll pick some cotton then retire on a lake. Unlike a majority of professional athletes I won't blown it on cars, cribs, and other nonsense. Stop whining play ball and be thankful.

Me too.  But can I pick peppers? Cotton doesn't grow in S Florida.

Yes, I did.

It appears, if you read the entire story that even other players also took exception to his statement.  His ill advised, off the cuff remark, revealed more about his inner man than the facade he apparently projects for public consumption.

" 'The players are getting robbed. They are,' Peterson told Yahoo. 'The owners are making so much money off of us to begin with. I don't know that I want to quote myself on that.' ..............................................................

Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant took exception to Peterson's comment, writing on Twitter: "Their is unfortunately actually still slavery existing in our world. Literal modern day slavery. That was a very misinformed statement."

Added Grant: "But I understand what point he was trying to make. I just feel like he should have been advised a little differently."

Saints fullback Heath Evans said he agrees with most of the Twitter responses about Peterson, which have been mostly negative.

"We are all blessed to even strap a helmet on in this league!" Evans tweeted."

If they aren't satisfied, do something else.

It happens in every phase of business, without owners of businesses most would not have jobs. They are owners because they want to make money, in turn we work for them to do the same. If everyone thought this way we would not be the society we are.

What possible "context" could there be to not make Peterson's statements utterly ridiculous?  He makes more money in a year than most people will make in their entire lives.  There is absolutely no possible way that he can compare his situation to slavery.  He's a moron.

It's called exaggerating. I call my boss a slave driver all the time, but I definately don't compare myself to an actual slave. He used the wrong words, and now all the drama lovers are going to make a huge deal out of it. Get a life.

He is a standup guy? Ohh please! And I did read the entire interview online. He made the decision to play football, and nobody forced him. I don't see anybody pointing a gun at him, and force him to work. How can he compare making 11 MILLION dollars a year to slavery?

Congrats.  I had no idea that you made millions of dollars a year.  When will you go on strike to demand more money each year?

More drama, imagine how this will affect the unemployment rate? I do not mean the players. Good (service)folks will have no place to go to make a living. Now I guess that is life. I am sure the players will be just fine sitting out a year without pay but the service folks will suffer. I hope that is being taken into consideration.

I know what you're saying, and I completely agree. I'm not siding with the players or the owners. I'm just saying that people are overreacting to Peterson's poor choice of words. For some reason, there is another thread about this same topic, and someone actually tried to turn it into a race thing. Give me a break.

Bottom line, is that he most likely didn't bother to take any public speaking or communication classes when he got his free ride in college.  Too bad.   :)

Sensitivity training may have helped also.

Why anyone would want to get into a forum argument over dudes that can't iterate their thoughts well, squabbling over billions of dollars is beyond me.

The ice can't melt quick enough, I guess.

Keep it civil guys.

Adrian Peterson has a heavy foot, but other than that, he is one of the classiest athletes in pro sports. Any fan of NFL football knows that. But he really, really made a horse's toe out of himself with that comment. If we were mike'd up as often as a top professional athlete is, who knows, we might make a few mistakes too.

Could've been worse, it couldn't been a white guy saying it. :D
