xcalibur xr50 lipless crank

Featured Replies

Anyone have an opinion on these lipless cranks?  I bought a couple today at Dick's (salesman told me that even thought they were marked 6.99 they were included in the "daiwa, xcalibur, and matzuo hardbaits for 2.99 sale, so thats what I paid!).  I like the look of them, and after throwing a sureset tail hook on, I am pretty pumped to get them in the water.  *Note: lots of good crankbait/zoom softbait sales at Dicks right now!

The XR50 is my favorite lipless crank.  I have tried several LC, Megabass, Rapapla, and of course the Rat-L-Trap but the XR50 has caught the most fish.  I also like the Xrk75 One Knocker.

glad to hear I didn't get a hell of a deal on something useless.  I'll be out this weekend seeing how I like it, I hope I have the same luck you've had!

The bait's profile is very similar to the Yo-Zuri Rattlin' Vibe, but I MUCH prefer the Yo-Zuri.  It has a harder tail kick and retains it's action at slower speeds than the XCalibur.  Basically the same price.

That's not to say the XCalibur doesn't work - - I know a lot of people around here really like them.  So fish with confidence.   ;)

But FWIW, my favorite lipless crank is still the Cordell Spot - and I have over 20 different brands of lipless cranks.

$2.99?  I might have to go and try me one. My favorite was a cotton cordell super spot chrome/blue but I went and rigged it to a custom three blade buzz bait where I cut off the jighead and hook and attached the spot and bent the arms so that it would run correctly. I can't take credit for the idea, but I can't remember who it was that created it right now, sorry. ;) Anyways it works awesome.  Actually my most productive was a rattlin rapala...

Lose the tail hook and bump up the front hook to a short shank size 2.

I saw the sign at Dicks also, and since those were the only Excalibur they even had I picked up two of them and went to the counter to check out.Of course they rang up at 6.99.I then had to get a manager and inquire of why there is a false sign directly over the row with these baits. He reluctantly deducted the cost and said that someboby screwed up and sorry for the mistake. PRETTY FUNNY :;)

I had the same thing happen when they were stocking the Zell Pops.I was not fortunate enough to get those on sale since they are 10.99.I tried though. The sign didn't specify ::(

Outstanding lures!

Although I have several, I only fish the chrome blue/orange belly.

It's killer!

2.99?!?! I'm going up there today and buying their whole stock.

They are great baits.

I was always a Rattlin Rapala fan. Over the winter I got a deal on a Royal Shad XR50. All I can say is WOW!!!! That bait outfished my Rapalas 15-1. I've since picked up a couple more colors.

You got them for a great price also.

Falcon

$2.99 was a steal.  Whoever put those on sale needs to stop pricing items at Dicks or they will be out of business selling below wholesale.   ;D

The Xcalibur baits are good lipless baits.  I use all three models.

BUT....I would not limit yourself to one model.  I fish several lipless models and find one or two always outproduce the others on given days.

My favorites are assorted models and colors from:

Cordell

SPRO

Lucky Craft

River2Sea

Xcalibur

Good luck with your new bait!

Brad
