47" musky this weekend

Featured Replies

Recently I have been giving the bass a break and starting chasing these guys.  Got this nice one this weekend.

Great fish! The markings on that one are awesome! Most of the ones my fishing partner and I catch on the Potomac are the clear stage where they have almost no markings what so ever. What did you catch it on? I was out the other evening for them and experienced something that I rarely see. I was throwing a top water prop bait and had a follow. Funny thing is, it wasn't a "typical" follow. This one, the best way I can describe it, came up from underneath it causing this massive wake under the bait! The wake basically grew under the bait and she stayed there the whole way into the shore, that's when it turned off and headed off never to be seen again. Have you ever seen anything like that? Just curious.

What a beauty! I bet SHE doesn't give the bass any breaks!!

Nice fish!!

I caught her on a cowgirl on the figure 8.  She followed the bait in and ran under the boat.  I started the fig 8 and she came back about 30 seconds later, got hot on it and ate it on the second turn.

My partner caught a 37" the night before on top water.

I once was working a sammy bass fishing one morning and had a big ski come and erupt right in front of me.  After the water settled my sammy was laying 3 feet in front of me with about 10 inches of line still attached to it.  The fish came back to take a look, saw me and was off in a flash.  I was glad I got my sammy back.  I was a little afraid to reach in and grab it though.  I am not ready to "noodle" a musky.

Wow...that fish has beautiful markings.

I must be the only muskie fisherman in the world without a fish on a cowgirl.

Beautiful musky....We fish them through the ice up here  in Massachusetts, congrats

Nice Musky and great markings on it too.

No, there's two of us. I actually landed my first musky on a bucktail this year, so I hadn't had much confidence in them before. I'll be adding more at some point and I'm sure I'll have a few Cowgirls on my list!  :)

Guys,

Thanks for the kind words.  That was my first cowgirl fish as well but, I hardly ever throw them.  I have to say they made me a believer.  I did not have it on that long before I got him.  I have had a lot of followers this year on other baits that just wouldn't eat.  This guy came up and followed a little lazy but, he liked it on the figure 8.

After having a nice conversation over e-mail with a really well known area guide, I will be throwing cowgirls a lot this weekend.
