Not around here. Northern Mississippi, just south of Memphis, produces the

biggest crappie in the world. There is a feature article in this month's In-Fisherman

magazine about the four lakes. 4+ is not common, but many are caught

every year. What I find amazing is that they can grow so big when almost

all fish caught are harvested.

Yes that area is known as the Arc. Up north we do not see that many big crappies. Big difference in length of the growing season.

that is a huge speck here in florida. The state record for florida is 3.83lbs.

That's a great fish. The state record here is 4 lbs. 15 ozs, but my PB is only 1 lb. 8 ozs.

X2 on that!  I have not caught too many big ones here.

I have never seen crappie that big as the one the woman is holding. Toads in the crappie world for sure.

I think both those crappie are the biggest Ive ever seen!

I'm not trying to naysay you by ANY means, but are you sure that your first pic isn't a crappie hybrid?

Man, I wish the crappies in Wisconsin grew that big. Big ones here are about 10-12 inches long. Stinking winter and short growing seasons

Perhaps that's why they get so big.  By reducing their numbers, they don't get stunted.  Only certain waters can support this kind of...management philosophy, I think, so I don't usually recommend it.

Still, I'd be thrilled If I caught even a 1.5 lb crappie.
