And I've caught some pretty decent fish with it too. I can admit it, I'm a man. Sometimes the bait monkey makes you do crazy things! ;)

I purchased the Banjo Minnow kit as my friend swears by them.

I have never used them so please give us some information such as the water clarity, temperature, weather conditions, wind, etc. you had your success.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

I had some success when the water was 65* and higher. Pretty clear water. Usually on the white/black or white/gray. Fast retrieve, jerk then stop, jerk then stop. When the bass are more aggressive and willing to chase a bait this thing seems to work pretty effectively. Especially around cover (laydowns, boat docks etc) I tried fishing it slow in the colder water without much luck.

My tournament partner loves the banjo minnow also.  Gotta admit,I laughed at him when he first put it on, but he caught fish.  Those smallies hammer the banjo.

i have caught some fish off the banjo minnow,  3lb largemouth bass, crappie, and  pickerel. have caught 22 small largemouth bass in one day with it.

I am sorry to hear that Matt.  What is the biggest bass you have caught with them?

Don't be sorry  :'(

Biggest freshwater bass on the banjo was back in '97 3.5 pounds. Pretty respectable for New England. Caught alot of schoolie Stripes down at the ocean... I take it with me sometimes just for fun, my buddy was laughing at me until I started catching with it.

I have them and have had success with them. I have used a jerkbait type retrieve, Jerk and let fall, jerk and let fall has worked for me.

I've had phenomenal success with the banjo when it came out.  Eric bought the kit and the first day out, we both used it.  Not a bad day.  The next day out, he was all set with them, just wanted to see what it was all about.  I used them again the second day and bagged a 6.5

My issue is that the hooks are waaaaay too thin.  I caught a 4 lbr the same day that straightened the hook.

The Banjo Minnow is nothing special, it works when almost anything else would have worked better.

Yes, I also have the Kick-tail and keep the complete, three piece set, in one of the top shelf compartments of my tackle box- to remind me NEVER to by another product advertised on an informercial!

It's the same way with charlie brewer's slider heads! (although I love them)

I use the photo print Perch banjo minnow on a ball head for Walleye. The problem was you couldn't walk in a store and buy 5 bags.

That ranks right up there with the greatest thread titles of all time  ;D.  I have never purchased anything from the television, but it seems people have had some success with them.  I can just see it now  "KVD takes Elite Series event on Rayburn with a Banjo Minnow!"

HELLO MATT...LOL.. ;D....WELCOME TO (BMA) BANJO MINNOW ANNONYMOSE.. :;) ::)  I HAVE SOME...USE THEM FOR SMALLIES WHEN I RUN OUT OF TUBES.

I too have the banjo minnow, the first time i used it I was using the smaller minnow with my ultra-light spinning combo and 6 lb. test. I was fishing smallies and i was hangin off a bridge (how I had caught smallies numerous times before) and I hardly got 5 jigs in when a big smallie came out from under a log and hammered it.  I managed to get the fish pulled up to the bridge only to have it break my line right before it was in arms reach.... o well, i still had great luck with the Banjo Minnow all the other times I used it and would be using to this day if my kit hadn't dissappeared. I still dont know where that sucker went....

That was the idea! At least I wasn't alone in the closet LOL!  ;D

My buddy will just about laugh me out of the boat. On tough days I always say "if I had the Banjo minnow right now I would be catching fish". I used the Banjo minnow for 1 season and it caught tons of fish. I fished it weightless and jerked it like a injured shad, man the reaction strikes....

i dont have any but from what it looks on tv they dont weight enough to make an effective cast and they bodies would fall off if the clip was moved slightly

Interesting judgement from somebody that's never used it or seen it used in front of them, only on tv.  I've seen my partner fish with the banjo minnow pretty much everytime out, and the problems you thought would happen with them, never has yet, and this has been 3 years now.

They cast fine and bodies never fell off on him.

thats the only as seen on tv lure that i used and actually worked ;D

What was that lure that was out about 10 or so years ago, that would go away from you when it hit the water, you pull it, and it goes away from you again.  I can't think of the name.

I think it's a great looking lure, but I don't see how a fluke rigged through the nose would be any different.

Am I missing something?

THE FLYING LURE...MY BUDDY HAS IT AND HE HAS NEVER CAUGHT A THING WITH IT.

Matt, next thing you'll be telling us is that you're strung out on flying lures!

I picked up 2 sets of flying lures at Hudson's (close out store) for next to nothing.  I have managed to catch a few fish, but I always had better luck with a straight up tube lure.

LOL, nope. No flying lures for me. I do remember the commercials tho. The banjo is the only one I've bought off of TV.  ;)
