Jigs in vegetation

Featured Replies

What Jig & Trailer combinations do you all use when specifically fishing in cabbage, coontail, or other vegetation? Also where's your favorite source for jigs on line?It seems I spend as much time picking salad off my jigs under these situations as I do fishing. Thanks for all your input.

Good fishin'

Jig: Booyah Baby Boo Jig (Black/Blue)

Trailer: Uncle Josh Phantom Trailer (Black), YUM Chunk (Black)

You can buy jigs at BPS, ***, and other sites.

I have been having excellent results  with

BPS Pear Shaped Jig Heads ( with the spring screw) of Lucky Strike Shakey Heads  with a 3.5 *** Brush Bug, hook buried in the bait in Watermelon/purple swirl.

I recommend a florida rig 10 times over for fishing vegitation.  I use a rage anaconda or craw, a *, or a big brush hog.

If it's really thick, I have better luck with T-rigs. Seems to come thru the vegetation better...

Oldham's Trailer Hitch Jig: A jig is simply a tool, and these are designed to do the job right in the rough and tangled depths where lunker bass prowl. The upturned head and line tie eye are designed to slice through vegetation, and Oldham's Screw-Lock system allows you to fish all day using just one or two trailers.

Mango Jig, by Nichols. As weedless as a T-rig. Weeds, wood, brush, open water... A truly great lure.

I like Booyah Baby Boo jigs, with a pork-o trailer, as far as colors, I use black, it holds it's identity well, i've most likely caught more bass on black jig than any other. An other idea is to try to make your jig look as natural  as possible, don't just pull it up and down off the bottom, I also like to move my jig just slow enough to make them barely tap the bottom and make the mud poof.

Try this.. use a heavier rod with low stretch line. When your jig gets caught into a patch of weeds, grab the butt of the rod with both hands and give it a sharp jerk. The jig should explode through the weeds, and settle back down. This can cause wicked reaction strikes too.
