Charley Hartley may not have won the classic......

Featured Replies

....but I believe he won the hearts of bassfisherman all across the world.

Watching some of the coverage, this guy has a great attitude and a wonderful personality. I bet it won't be the last we here from him!

My hats off to you Charley!

Yeah I loved watching him fish. I was pullin for him in the end. His wife was right, he is dissapearing Charley on the final day. When I first saw him on Friday I couldnt decide if he looked more like Brian Mcnamee or Andy Dick.

I was really wanting Charlie to win.  The guy won my respect.

Charlie tells a story about reading bassmasters eating cereal and telling his Mom about being a Pro fisherman when he grows up.

Great story came true.

He'll be back!  Great to see him on the stage finally!

I would have love to seen him catch the two he missed ;)

Me to!

Yup, class act.  From what I got from Fluke last night, he was very willing to chat it up with the folks there to meet him too.  A winner in my book.

He was one of the guys I was pulling for too.

On a different note it was interesting seeing the pressure get to him at the end.  You see it in golf, football, baseball etc all the time.  Great coverage by ESPN let me see it from a new perspective ( for me ).

It added a whole new level of the intensity to the sport that some may never have seen.  Not just a bunch of mooks out fishing like some think  ;)

In the beginning I wasn't much of a fan but by the end, he had my respect. I wanted too many people to win for just one spot. All 50 of 'em, even the ones that didn't make the tourney.

Classic coverage improved on day two.  Watching Hartley and his smooth technique, dare to be brave, get right in the thick of the stuff attitude I was impressed.  He threw that jig into places where other guys just would have laughed and said, "yea you lose your bait".  Talk about accuracy and looking for that big bite.

I don't think I've seen anyone fish docks as well as this guy.  He stayed on his game plan from the get go throwing that jig.  And when it got sunny on the last day he started fishing right under the docks and getting it into tight spots where he knew fish would be relating too.

It sucked to see him miss his limit on the last day like Ike.

The top six definately surprised me in the way they finished.  What a classic.

Charlie will rid that nick name at some point this year.  The guy is a great bass fisherman and exciting to watch.  And he loves his family and fans, the people who make it happen.

hartley was a class act but how about an atta boy to cliff pace as well.

I would have love to seen him catch the two he missed ;)

me too. They looked like they were nice ones.

And Charlie is a crack smallie guy always a threat around Lake Erie.

Charley had a great Classic for sure.  It was nice to see someone with real enthusiasm and not that just for the camera crap.

Everyone I know was rooting for him after day one. I loved it when he would call out to "Momma" for help. The guy is an absolute class act. But if Charlie couldn't win, I am happy that another "good guy" won it.

Charlie was indeed humbled by the whole experience. At the Day 1 press conference he was sitting up there leading the Classic and answering questions.....boy was he nervous. He couldn't sit still and was shaking like a leaf.

One heck of a guy, he was very thankful to everyone for coming out and supporting him. And one thing is for sure, he left the Classic with lots of new fans. I sure was pulling for him.

Wish he had won, he'll be there again

That is what makes the classic "classic".     The story of guys growing up and living on beanie weanies for months, sleeping out of their trucks, and the Charlie Hartleys'.

Cliff Pace,   Mr. Icewater, one cool cucumber.   WoW!!!!
