My 7yr old's First bass.

Featured Replies

We hit a local pond today (Sunday) for about three hours and my oldest boy was fortunate enough to land this bass all by himself, Figuring this was a big moment in his life I told him I'd post it in here so everyone could see his fish he's so proud of. We took four nice fish but I think his was the most important, he settled down and started to actually fish hard after landing that one and has said we wants to go back tommarrow.....I think hes got the bug now!

sorry the picture is so bad but my phone has a crappy camera, six pictures didnt even come out.

That's outstanding!!! ;D He's hooked for sure. Enjoy these times, they are the best. My son is my full time partner now at just 13 and a very skilled angler.

Thats so awesome!  Be sure to tell him we all said congrats.  The baitmonkey is probably thrilled!!

There's only one thing wrong with the pic.  That yankees hat.

Tell him i say good job. He should be proud of a fish that looks that nice. You should be proud too for raising such a fine angler.

That right there is what it's all about........Tell him good job. My first bass wasn't nearly that big but I still remember every detail about it. ;)

That's about the same size as my first bass. I was just a little older than him though. Very cool. I will never forget that day as long as I live.

That's a nice bass, esp. for the first!

take him often.

Thanks everyone, He's really enjoyed hearing from ya'll. Yeah it 's alot bigger than my first by a mile! he caught it on a brand new Zebco clasic combo I bought him last season and fishing a little spinner with a jig body. I know I'll never forget the sound of his voice, He was saying " I think Ive got something! Here Dad Take it!", As he tried to hand the pole to me in a panic. I told him "in a panic also," I cant.. you hooked him you have to land him"! When the fish broke the water I was afaid that big of a fish would throw the little lure, but he got  him in.

I am a little worried about his future as a fisherman though, I couldnt get get him to kiss it!

senko77,

About the hat, Unfortunately it's the name of the team he plays on. We got a new puppy this weekend and I caught him chewing on his hat.. I told my wife the dog must have some Boston Terrier in him!

That's awesome. Great fish and LOVE the hat!

congrats!!!!!! my first bass was lucky to break a pound but most likely a 3/4's pound......im glad it wasnt that big im already about to go in dept cuz of fishing stuff id hate to see were id be if i started with a fish that size :o probably be living in my tackle box ;D   ::)

The best memories I have of fishing are with my Dad!  I am sure your son will have the same memories when he gets older!!!  Congrats to both of you!!!

My six year old caught his first bass on Labor day 2006.  He was fishing for bluegill but a bass was under the dock.  Well my son got him to bite his nightcrawler!  He was so excited to catch a bass!  I got a great picture of him with the fish.  The next week when we went out on my boat, I tied on a zoom C tail worm for him while I fished a brush hog.  Well he caught three fish before I ever got a bite!  The next week he picked up my spinnig rod and started casting with it.  Now he will only fish with a spinning rod.  I had to buy one just for him!  He can't wait for us to start going back out again.
