Another Varner 11lber

Featured Replies

Went out today at Varner despite the gusts of 30-35 MPH wind. It was tough holding the boat in one spot or even getting anchors to hold in place. It was worth fighting the wind all day since the big ones were biting. We used swimbaits and swimjigs almost all day and caught the fish in the photos and a few more not photographed. Got my second 11lber in less than a week.  I am windburned and half the skin on my thumb is gone but it was worth it .

Very nice. Looks like i might have to plan a trip up there lol.

Congrats on the DD's  I'm still working on my first  :'(

I have yet to catch a bass on a swimming jig.  well, once but that's it.

Is there a time, color, retrieve, etc. that is standard "swim jig" time.

For example.  when the bass are on the beds, dragging a lizard is a standard technique.

what would the conditions typically be for you to say "swim jig"  and then how do you do it.

sorry to be such a pain, but I hear alot about this bait, but obviously something ain't right.

Great fish AGAIN Randall. Do you keep track of all your DD bass? It's seems like you're posting unbelievable fish every time I turn around.

Congrats!

The reason I was using the swimming jig is that the wind was blowing to hard at times to throw a fluke very well so I was fishing the swimming jig much like you would a fluke with jerks and then letting it fall. It had a white skirt and a fluke as a trailer. I was imitating a bait fish swimming over beds. The swim jig I use is 1/2oz with a head that makes it plane out in the water and kind of glide. It was heavy enough to throw in the wind but the head gave it a slower gliding action. Only other time I really use it much is over shallow grass in much the same way.

Hey, Matt, are you sposoring Randall? I'm gonna have to have a couple of bluegills and a baby bass in the VERY near future. Bait monkey is beating me about the head and shoulders, and Randall is adding force to the blows.  ;D

Nope. I dont realy sponser anybody. I might give out a few baits here and there to guys who have helped me out or gotten my a new account but I do not have a sponser program. Usualy when a top BASS or FLW guy wants some baits I Give a good discount. If they mention my baits on TV or in a magazine I always thank them with some freebees or when I am testing some prototypes I remember Guys like Randall who posts up big fish with my baits. I will be sending him some prototype Mattshad swimbaits in the near future to get his thoughts and as a thank you.
