Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge

Is this for real?  If so, is that the best eating part, the tail meat?  What is it comparable too?  Is it fishy?  Gamey?

Dude alligator is awesome fried, grilled, or in a Sauce Piquant; the tail can be cut into steaks; any of the meat can be fried or made into a Sauce Piquant.  

Many times for a Super Bowl party I would take the entire body marinate it over night in Wishbone Italian salad dressing and slow cook it on a Bar-B-Que pit.

Gator doesn't taste fishy or gamey, it has a taste all it's own; I've never had anyone tell me they didn't like it as long as I never tell them what it was before hand.

That is a big gator and here in the south there are a lot of them (I'm sure Catt sees them reg also). I see 3 or 4 (not quite that size often) every trip.

You can get a permit to hunt them here every year now.

Man I sure am glad we don't have croc's around where I fish, if we did I don't think I would fish....I couldn't imagine sticking my rod down into the water trying to get unhung, or liping a fish from the water if there was even the slightest chance a croc could be down there.

I've only seen 1 gator in my life, at Fork on the first BR trip.  I don't think I would want to fish around THAT one!!

Agreed. Gator is excellent. However, it can be a bit chewy if not cooked properly.

What a gorgeous gator!

I remeber fishing at the golf course pond down in Jacksonville, Fl and seeing a couple of gators swimming around, not to mention when you hear the babies crying.  That always gave me the heebie jeebies.  Great picture by the way!

That is a nice gator here is a 10 ft 1 inch gator I caught on rod and reel . They are a heckuva fight when you hook them in the tail
