First Bass of 2009...and she was worth the wait!!!!

Featured Replies

Hey all...

It was 65* here in RI today so I took my new swimbait rod and reel along with a Sebile Magic Swimmer 165 in Natural Shiner . After several casts, I thought I got snagged...until the snag started moving!! Very sluggish, but a nice bass. Must have just awoke from the long winters nap. Reeled her in and she had SWALLOWED the whole bait, and this is a BIG bait. Around 25" long and about 4lbs. and SKIN- NEE!!!

Made my day!!! Spring is here!!!!

Strange thing...the inside of her mouth was BLOOD RED. I have seen this before, but not the whole inside of the mouth...weird.

Photo to follow, if i can figure out how to upload it!!!

:)

Every single fish I have caught this winter has had a red mouth too.

Nice job.  The red mouth is from eating crawfish I believe.

I thought so too, but I can't seem to catch them on anything that resembles a crawdad. :-/

Nice fish!

Doesn't have to be crawfish. I have seen this in bass in places where there are no crawfish.

Its because the water is cold. Notice how your face or fingers will be like that if your in the cold a long time? Same thing with the fish.

Didn't know such places existed.
