X rap 10 meets Dourado

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I have been wanting to share my fishing trips with you guys for a while now, however it has been a long time since I had a nice one. I am not sure where I should post this; I hope this is the right place. This weekend I went fishing on Parana River, in the south of Brazil.

The Parana River second-longest river in South America running through Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina over a course of some 3,998 km (2,484 miles) if the distance is counted from the headwaters of the Paranaiba River in Brazil.

The area I went is in the map bellow.

I was targeting the Dourado (Salminus maxillosus), which is a golden fish that likes to inhabit fast moving waters near heavy cover (mostly fallen timber). Dourado fights very hard and the current makes the fight even harder. This fish jumps a lot and very high!

The largest fish I caught was an 8 pounder, around 27 inches. I lost fish that may be bigger due to open hooks and split rings. Next time I am going to use 4x. lol

Here is a picture of the fish and the lure after I caught it.

The fish you can usually catch with lures are dourado, piracanjuba (Brycon orbignyanus) and Blue Peacock Bass (Cichla piquiti). Piracanjuba is almost extinct and the blue peacock bass is a non-native. After a long time disappeared Piracanjuba have been caught again since a couple years ago. There are some big catfish there too; pintado (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans) and Jaú (Zungaro jahu) are generally the most desired. Other fish you can catch there with natural bait are pacu (Colossoma mitrei) and piapara (Leporinus elongatus). Those are the main fish there, but there are many other species.
