I just want to go on the record thanking her for all she has done and congratulate her on her weekend at the classic.

I'm sure she would have liked to finish higher, but, just take a gander at the list that she finished ahead of.

Congratulations Pam, now go kick some bass in the opens.

Best of luck,

Jack

I was thinking the same thing yesterday while looking at the standings.  I've watched her on a couple of shows and the woman can flat-out fish.  Think about it.  There were only 5 lbs between her and 11th place.  She was one solid fish from making it into the top 15.

I agree Jack  Pam showed everyone at the Classic how she got there....by catching fish when many others couldn't  ;) I think she'll do just fine in the Open's and behind her all the way.....

Which is all the more reason for the ladies to fish the opens, qualify and move up the ladder. That, is equality.

Yes, congrats Pam.

dave, my guess is the reason for the women's league is to encourage participation. Just hearing Kriet's public comment says a lot.

Maybe Pam will be one of the first to make that jump. It's an intense, and expensive, game; One I for one haven't had much interest in.

Happy to see Pam fish with, and above, much of the competition in the most competitive bass event there is.

Thanks,

Jeff Kriet:

"I lost $100," he said when informed that Pam Martin-Wells had made the cut to fish on Sunday.

"I don't mean that disrespectfully," he added quickly.

I'll go on record as saying that I'm gender blind as far as sports are concerned. If women want to play in the NFL, god bless them, let them try out. Pam did a decent job and we all know where she finished. However to have to make a special thanks and congratulations for finishing in the middle of the pack, would to some, accentuate and underscore the fact that she's a woman in a male dominated sport, and that people are actually amazed as to where she landed in the final standings.

Let the standings speak for themselves, and let the chips fall where they may. All the competitors who made the classic worked hard to get there and have my equal respect, male or female. I do however, save my congratulations for the one and only winner. If she's good enough, hopefully she'll get another chance at it. I'd personally like to see her fish another classic or two.

I find it not unlike all the hoopla , congrats and face time given to Danica for her finishes, or lack of. To me she's just another driver, let her show the world what she does or does not have in the way of driving skills, gender aside.

I don't think Martin-Wells received much hoopla, especially compared to Danica Patrick. For me, and I assume for many others, the reason I want to emphasize how Martin-Wells did is to encourage those with biased attitudes to take notice. We have over 25,000 members so you can be sure there are biases among us and all of us, now and then, can fall prey to stereotypes.  I do understand your point about the hoopla however, especially regarding Danica.

This is an interesting conversation. I will add my $.02 FWIW. I have come to believe that while while I would like to be blind to issues of gender, race, ethnicity, age, socio-economic status, education, religion, political alliance, geographic location, sexual preference, hair color/style/length, tattoos/piercings, and only God knows how many others, I am not. How I see the world is formed by many things, some of which I do not understand.

I cannot possibly know the challenges of a woman competing in a man's world. When Danica Patric or Pam Martin-Wells compete at these levels, whether they win or not, it is news. They have achieved a level of success that will open the doors for other women. It is worthy of comment for that reason, if no other.

Was Kriet's comment based on her fishing skills? It was more likely based on his views of having a woman compete for one of the biggest prizes in fishing. It is that attitude that separates her from the rest of the field.

why stop at the female tour? If B.A.S.S. wants to really segegrate people based on chromosones, why stop there?

According to B.A.S.S., XX chromosomes get their own special tour but they can qualify for the XY tour. XY chromosomes must compete only in XY events.

What about those overlooked and discriminated against Klinefelter's syndrome, or XXY. Klinefelter's syndrome is the most common sex chromosome disorder, affecting about 1 out of every 1,000 males.

I don't know how BASS can defend special treatment for XX's but completely overlooks XXY chromosome holders.

Why not drain more of the membership fees that go to the XX tour and run an XXY tour?

Come to think of it, there are not many blacks in tourny fishing. How about a blacks only tour, the winner could be seeded #52 in the classic.

**

bottom line: separate tours is insulting (saying, ok you ladies can't hold your own yet so here is a special sand box), a waste of membership dues (mostly paid by white, men), and divisive.

The top 50 PEOPLE should qualify for the classic, regardless of their race, gender or ethnicity!!!
