how do you keep cool in the summer?

My guys like to take a break every now and then. We go downstream from the Pickwick Dam, jump in the middle of the river and float down a couple of miles. Now, that's fun.

If that's not an option when you're fishing, bring a lightweight towel, dip in the lake OFTEN and wear it around your neck. This also works great for yard work, jogging or most anything else you're doing on a hot summer day.

Always wear a light colored hat, always.

Drink plenty of water!!!!

I used to (haven't yet this summer for some reason) pack a cooler filled with ice and around 3 or 4 wash clothes.  I put them on the back of my neck.  It really hits the spot.  I don't know why (medically) when you put something cold on the back or your neck it cools your whole body, but it does.

im with KU on the drinking

the reason your whole body cools when somthing is on your neck is because the arteries that run through your neck are one of the biggest in your body. so if you cool the blood in your neck it runs throughout your whole body

99 and muggy here in Mn. I can deal with heat, humidity I can't. Your best bet on day's like this, don't fish. A heat stroke is not something you want.

Here in southern Mississippi 95-100 degree heat w/ 100 percent humidity is about average. You get used to it!The way I beat it in bass fishing is not to fish in it.No,I haven't quit fishing,But I fish only in low light conditions .Dawn to sunup, the last two hours of the day,and at night.

I'm in Georgia and its humid, hot, sticky a lot of the time. But to keep cool on the water, I just drop anchor and jump in for a little swim around the boat.

drink a beer....

so ur fishing and its 92 degrees

[glb]how do you keep cool??[/glb]

Buddy come here, you have to experience 120°  ;D.

Columbia makes some long sleeve shirts that are lightweight and have air vents built in around the shoulders so it keeps the sun off you and keeps you cool. Also those hats that have a flap to cover your neck help. The wet towel over your neck also helps. Drink plenty of water or gatorade and not soda it will only dehydrate you. I was fishing with a guy worried he wasn't drinking enough fluids so he downs a can of Coke, won't help.

104 degrees today in Sacramento.  I agree with what all of you said.  For me, a toel dipped int he wated around my neck and a wide brim straw hat.  (Straw due to the airflow trhough the hat, not a solid cap),

Also, light colored shirt, shorts.  Also, 45 SPF sunscreen all over (face, neck, legs, arms and the all over my ears.

reelon, Raul is, as the song says, "South of the border, down Mexico way"!

I'm not so concerned about keeping cool as I am out of the sun.  I do drink a LOT of water.  Years ago I started carrying a bandana.  I open it up, lay it over my head where it covers my ears and neck-kind of like the hats you see the French Foreign Legion wear, and put my hat on to hold it in place.  Haven't had a sunburn on my ears or neck in years.  It may look goofy, but who cares?  I'm too busy fishin' to be concerned ;) ;D

Raul, you scare me!

Its mid 90's here in japan, with 90%+ humidity.  you get used to most things if you do it enough.  I like to drink tons of water, but i also drink lots even before i get to the lake, as dehydration can sneek up on you quick.

I should add...im usually dock fishing.  (Gotta throw that in for the kiddies)  "Drinking and Boating is bad, mmmkay?"

It gets between 100 and 110 here for sometimes a month with high hummidity.  Also it will rain just enough to make steam in the afternoon some days.  I have to drink water continously, wear light colors, the towel thing and sometimes find shade or take a quick swim.  A hat is a must.  I also have rigged up two 12 volt fans for when the dogs go ( they don't get to when it gets that hot) but they don't seem to help much , unless you can stretch out under the console on a wet towel.  I am thinking about trying one of those mist bottles, I have some for a hose and they seem to help.

With some nice cold beverage (non alcoholic) and usually jumping in or wading out for a little bit.

take off my shoes and jump in the water yo aobut my knees and fish seems to work for me

Im seventeen and in good shape still for a few more years so i just take off my shirt

And sometime i swim

I jump in regularly and then I bust my parners nuts cause he's scared of snapping turtles,...lol
