Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

Hey guys I have heard alot of good things about LC pointers but they are quite expensive. Just wondering if its worth it to spend the cash. Or is there any other affordable jerkbaits that have the same performance.

What makes the Lucky Craft special is it's the most user friendly.

As far as catching fish, you'll do just fine with the Smithwick Rogue,

Rapala Husky Jerk and X-Rap.

What Roadwarrior said X2.

But those Lucky Crafts are really very nice.

So save your pennies and dimes and treat yourself for your birthday, anniversary, graduation, Christmas or the wonderful "Fishing Day in America" and get at least one.

You will not regret it.  ;)

I like LCs, too.  Very nice premium baits.

But as RW said, don't overlook Rapalas - Husky Jerks and X-Raps.   Bomber Long As are classics, inexpensive, and have a very nice action.  Of all my jerkbaits, Long As have probably caught the most fish.

As for other premium jerkbaits, Jackall Squad Minnows are nice, and have a killer action.  I haven't caught anything on them, but I've played around with them and they look fantastic.

Another permium jerkbait, which may turn out to be my favorite, is the Ima Flit 120.  This thing is absolutely spastic.

LC Pointers are expensive but they are more than worth it in my mind. You really don't need a super wide range of colors either. To get started with pointers, I would suggest buying a 100sp in chartreuse shad and a 100sp in ghost minnow. Use the ghost minnow for clear water and the chartreuse shad for more stained water.

These are my top choices too and silver or gold with black back seem to be top producers and locally in Smithwick or the Husky jerk  The hot pink x-rap for smallies is a super producer.

All the post so far have had excellent suggestions, the Ima Flit was one of my top new additions of 2008 and I plan on getting a few more for next season. I've also done well on the Pointers, X raps & Husky Jerks.

Smithwick Super Rogue's out fish them both. :o

I have a nearly complete collection of Rogues. I have every

one of the three in ten that work. I doubt I will ever fish them

again. They are too light in general, foul consistently, break

easily and lose buoyancy over time.

Otherwise, great lures.

;)

..... :-?  ;D

The comment is accurate, Rogues produce just fine when they are

working properly. The issue is poor quality as compared to Lucky

Craft or Rapala jerkbaits. From a "users" standpoint, the lures must

be tested because many are defective or become that way (sinking

is most common). Even if the lure is fine, casting often results in foul

hooks because the lure is light and unbalanced. It's the nature of the

Smithwick Rogue. If you are willing to put up with all of that, this lure

produces strikes.

I've never had a problem with the Smithwick Rogue. Its my go to Jerkbait in gin clear water..

been using the suspending rogues for many years and never had a problem with them. They are big fish catching machines if used in early spring.Had someone give me a pointer in some version of a pearch color and I have yet to catch one on it.Im sure it works, I just always take it off after a few cast and put on one of my rogues. Its all about what bait you have confidence in.If you have troubles casting lighter lures then the one thing I did notice was that the pointer seemed heavier.

Another good jerkbait that just about no one talks about is the Daiwa DB Minnow.  I think it runs about $7.  It's got a nice action and it stops very quickly which adds to the eratic look of its movements.   It is very detailed, has nice durable finishes and good hooks.  It's a great value jerkbait.
