Strike King, Sexy Shad Color Baits?

Recommended Posts

Just want to know if the sexy shad color is as good a color as Strike King says it is? I see that they have that color in the new Burner and the bottom dweller spinnerbaits. And they have it in there swimming jig. looks like a cool color. Just would like to know any of you like the sexy shad color?

I have been through a few, but the only thing I caught on them were trash fish. Not necessarily a knock on the bait, cause that one pro....whats his name..... seems to do pretty well with them. I do like the feel and the action of all those strike king rattle traps. Around our parts, the chrome sexy shad worked much better for me. Just my .02.

Do a search and you'll have enough reading material to last until the thaw. It seems people are on both sides with this pattern; some think it's clever marketing, and others truly do have a lot of confidence with these baits.

One thing's for sure, darn near every hardbait manufacturer has a Sexy Shad pattern for 09'.

There are plenty of topics on this. Just do some searching.

I picked up a bunch of foxy shad and citruse shad colored fat free shads to try out. I usually stick with pearl white or firetiger because they produced well for me, but time to see how these baits fair.

To give you a direct answer to your query...yes.

Try the Foxy Shad as suggested above, too.  :)

personally, I'm not "sold" on the color.  The results posted by KVD in many tournaments with the color are undeniable but he can find and catch the fish using his style when no one else can, like in florida.  I do have some sexy shad baits but have yet to really fish them.

I am not usually one to get "hooked" on a color. However, I was given a couple crankbaits and a King Shad in the Sexy Shad color and gave them a try last Fall. Had two rods rigged with the Sexy Shad colors and two other rods rigged with my usual most productive color baits.

The King Shad even after going through areas with the other color first, the Sexy Shad color not only caught more, but the bigger fish on several different lakes.

Did the same test with the crank baits, while there was not as much a difference between the Series 6 sexy shad v/s a Citus DD22. There was a marked increase in numbers with the smaller Tour Series 3 v/s my favorite colored Bomber 4A.

This was enough for me to invest in several more King Shads in the Sexy Shad color and bought the KVD kit of crankbaits when it went on sale at BPS.

We will see what happens over the course of the next year with them.

It's definetely a good color that has it's time and place, I've done well with Strike King's Red eye shad in this color.

If you had been standing in my boat in 2008 you would have been sold on them. How about back to back 6s and three sacks over 20+ in tournaments last year with them.

I didn't get into the Sexy Shad craze until late last year. I had picked up the Red Eye Shad and the series 6 crank. The only thing I had caught on the Red Eye was 2 snapping turtles and wasn't able to put the series 6 to good use (the lake I fished later in the year is stained at best). I have added the chart sexy shad to my arsenal now so I do believe they will work.

I will continue to buy the Red Eye shad, but I am done with SK cranks. Junk IMO.

I bought a series 5 and 6 last year when I fished lake Barkley and after one weekend of fishing both were missing an eye and I only caught a few short fish on them.  I like the color pattern and all but I dont think its a magic color.  It has a time and place.  I do however like the red eye shads.  They held up for me great last year and were very productive.

I got the Sexy Shad KVD kit that BPS sells My girl did the math and figured it was the best buy. I tryed it out on wiley this weekend and didnt catch a thing just lost 2 of them so im going to restock them although i dont know how well they work yet.

I can tell you its a better buy if you like the SS KVD to buy the kit box that BPS has for 62.74 (With tax looking at my reciept) it saved me over 23 and change.

The color produced well for me last year on certain lakes but on others it didn't work so well but it did become one of my confidence colors/baits towards the end of the season

I remember doing this before too!  It's a good color, but no more important to have in your arsenal than any other color.  I do think this is a clear case of an overhyped color--they are doing a good job at making people think this is the only color crankbait you need.

Beyond the color---not a big fan of Strike King cranks.

If you caught 2 snapping turtles, maybe you need to fish it a little faster.  I've seen turtles move and there is no way they're catching my Red Eye when I'm reeling it.

I really like the Red Eye Shad.  In my opinion, the Sexy Shad color is not the main reason why this bait has been successful for me.  The action of the baits is responsible for the strikes.  If you changed the color to any of the popular brand shad colors it would still be successful.

The Red Eye Shad has worked for me in many colors with more bites in other colors that on the sexy shad color. I agree its more of the action of the bait as well.
